Is your mom taking any anti-psychotics? Sandie Des Moines, IA
Guest guest
No, actually, my mother isn't taking any psychotropic medications. We put her on paxil for a short while, which made her almost catatonic! So, she takes diabetes meds, glaucoma meds, and sinemet and something new which begins with a P for the Parkinson's symptoms. Mom's hallucinations are mostly paranoid delusions, and since they come and go, we're not treating them yet. She seems to be getting more and more childlike, which actually helps with the paranoia most days. Although, I should tell you all, I'm going to be away this weekend, and told Mom yesterday. I then told the nurses, apologizing to them because both they and I know that Mom will spend the next week acting out. And indeed, I got a call at 8:30 pm last night from the nurse saying she had wheeled herself down to her room and tried to stand up and walk without her walker, hitting her head. She also fell out of her wheelchair at dinner. *sigh* Peace, ellen On Tue, 29 Oct 2002 22:53:08 -0600 (CST) sanclown@... writes: ellen Just remembered that running the tongue along the teeth, or licking the lips can be a side affect of Haldol. Guest guest
ellen, I requested a restraint for my Mom when she couldn't be trusted to stay in the wheel chair and was falling. The nh can't use them unless you request them, but I thought it was better than a broken bone. The restraint fits across the arms of the wheel chair. Mom got to like it and felt uncomfortable when it wasn't there. Guest guest
You know, I've thought about this. About getting her one of those lap/table things for across the arms of the wheelchair. Then she could put stuff on it too, without just feeling restrained. Thanks for the suggestion.
