Guest guest
Thanks, Tara. Do you mind if I ask what other symptoms you had. I don't really know what else to look for. Thanks again!

Guest guest
- make sure they check for diabetes. I was diagnosed with Type I (insulin dependent) diabetes at 5 years old and this was one of the symptoms I had. Tara Message: 6 Date: Fri, 31 Jan 2003 15:02:16 EST From: whcmccain@... Subject: Urinary Tract Infection? Hi all, Sorry for the off-topic post, but this is an emergency. My son--eight years old, practically non-verbal--has been urinating every 5 to 10 minutes in the last 24 hours. We have a doctors appointment at 3:45 this afternoon. However, unless there is blood or infection present, the doctor will do nothing. I know because this has happened before. Does anyone know of anything else that could be causing this? What else should we be looking for? Guest guest
> Deb, could you help me with that technique but in a different way? I will do my best!!! > School starts in 3 weeks and I just dread it. > My son forgets the no talking rule he claims. > Its printed on the wall and reminded daily several times. He's reminded at home also. > NOTHING works! > > I really want him to understand that most of school you CANT talk. They can talk half of lunch though and recess. > > Now I wont get started on the not talking at school and lunch thing.. it really gets on my nerves. After all I STOPPED homeschooling so my son could SOCIALIZE at school This is a tough one. We deal with this with my son at home, too. Somedays, it is like he has diarrhea of the mouth and can NOT stop talking. I think it is a stimming thing, because it is usually when he is overstimulated, or has gotten some food off his diet. Try making a STOP sign out of bright red construction paper. On the back, make a go sign out of green. Have the teacher put the sign up somewhere when it is not a talking time. When he is allowed to talk, the sign flips to green. The visual reminder should help. Also, if the rule is NO talking for the entire day, it is time to have a talk with the teacher!!! I forget how old your son is, but unless he is highschool age, he should be allowed to talk some during the day!! All children need time during the school day to talk about what they are learning and to socialize. Research shows that talking helps comprehension, even if they are not talking about the book!!! Somehow, the simple act of talking helps the brain to synthesize the information. The old days of a perfectly silent classroom is not developmentally sound nor is it effective. If the teacher insists on silence during the school day, time to find another teacher!!!!! (OK, this is a sore subject for me. When I did my student teaching, my master teacher was very old fashioned and there was absolute silence in her room. When I took over, I allowed the children to talk. Their comprehension and reading scores actually went up!!!!! But, she marked me very poorly for my classroom control.............) > Also he wont look at the teacher when she's teaching. He decided he doesn't get it and his attitude is a quiet zone out, sort of I'm lost so FORGET it.... Very typical for AS kids. I think it was Temple Gardin who said she could not understand someone if she had to look at their face, she could only understand them if she looked away. Explain this to his teacher. She should not assume that just because he is not looking at her that he is not listening! > > He also loses himself in a piece of string. Dr said that was stemming. Yep, it probably is.... > If I could conquer those things school would be NORMAL for us I don't think school will ever be normal for us!!!!!!!!!!!!
