Guest guest
.. Dr. K. > said fixing the hernias would reduce my appitite and he wasn't kidding. I'm curious why the hernia repair would reduce your appetite. Did Dr K explain why? (I too have a hernia that I am going to have repaired next year and have a TT at the same time). Thanks! The stomach was being allowed to expand beyond what is normal because the hernia allowed the small intestines to move out of the way and give the stomach more room. Once the hernia is repaired, the stomach has less room to expand and you get the full feeling a lot sooner. If you're doing the tt at the same time, this would further reduce the room for expansion of the stomach and give you the full feeling even sooner. The sooner you get that feeling, the smaller your appetite will be. I mentioned how little I had to eat yesterday. When we were back in Wisconsin for Thanksgiving, in one day I had the following.. Breakfast: Slimfast protein shake, Peanut butter and banana sandwich (2 slices Iron Kids bread, app 2 tbs peanut butter, one banana, and a tbsp of Brimmel and Brown margerine.) Snack: 3 to 4 oz Turkey Jerkeu Lunch: Super Steak sandwich with " the works " . (Sheboygan specialty sandwich, 1/3 pound ground serlion grilled on a " hard roll " with katsup, dill pickles, mustard, onions, and real butter), 1/2 order of french fries or deep fried onions, cup of soup or chili mac, piece of poppy seed torte. Snack: Apple Dinner: Fish Fry (another Sheboygan Specialty.. 4 peices of breaded and deep fried lake pearch, french fries, cole claw, rye bread), another piece of torte. Snack: Left over apple or pumpkin pie. Drinks: 2 liter bottle of 5-cal lemonade plus one or two cans more and 2 to 3 cups Chai spiced tea. Compare that to what I had yesterday and you see the major difference. (And that's about 1/2 to 2/3 what I would have had before the d/s.) The only reason I stopped eating at any point is because I KNEW I was eating too much at one time. I never really felt full, though I did have a good episode of the belches in there a time or two after I stopped eating. The amazing part is that I didn't gain any weight during the ten-day stay back home, though I should have. But, if I had continued to eat at that rate, I know I would have had a significant weight regain in a few months. Now that I type this out (hindsight) I realize I was deffinately overeating the surgery. It is something I will have to learn to watch for and control better in the future regardless of whether or not the hernoas return. Hope that answers your questions (and is a good object lesson for every one else on the list.) ;-)) Jerry
