I have tried Hydrogen Peroxide (3%) and found it very uncomfortable so I

don't recommend it. Putting in the ear sometimes will improve the sinus if

you are coming down with a cold or flu. See:

For sinus issue nothing works like a urine nasal flush but that might not

be your cup of tea but do investigate a distant second is saline solution.

Inhaling vinegar or alcohol are considered very effective by some.

Mix 1 part vinegar or alcohol (Vodka will do) and 2 parts of water in

container, boil and cover the head with towel and inhale. Be careful reduce

heat till tolerable. If you try any of these solutions please let me know

how you made out.

Subject: sniffing vinegar to kill virus in sinus?

A couple of days ago I was watching a piece on BBC World about the SARS

virus. The correspondent had interviewed a Chinese nurse who was boiling

vinegar mixed with water in the background because " she believes the vinegar

will clean the air from viri " . Apparently, vinegar was sold out in almost

every shop in China once the hype about SARS got going.

Now, to my specific problem: today I developed a rather severe cold. Not

much fever, but a runny nose that was out of this world! I've never had such

strange nasal symptoms before. It is as if I'm constantly on the verge of

sneezing... but I never quite seem to reach that pivotal point. This is

EXTREMELY annoying. A consequence is that both my nose and my eyes are more

or less constantly dripping. So, in my desperation, I decided to mix some

vinegar and water and boil it on the stove. To really get into it, i sniffed

the vapour a few times. This stung a bit in my nose, but I kept at it for a

while. Now, about an hour later, the runniness seems to have mostly abated.

I don't know if this is because of the vinegar or simply the natural

progression of the infection. I have not been sick since I went mostly raw

last September... and the last week or so I've been cheating rather heavily

(quite a few chocolate bars and other sugary suspicious items).

So, has anyone else heard about this, apparently old Chinese tradition, of

boiling vinegar to relieve viral infections of the nose/lung?
