Guest guest
Hi everyone, I just joined the list in the past few weeks. I've been meaning to introduce myself, but " life " has gotten in the way of my computer time. I'll try to get an introduction out ASAP. Hopefully one day this week. I had to comment on " Music Therapy " . I'll also have to go catch up on my emails and read the first posts about this. I know that music has helped me immensely throughout my life. I play the piano myself, but haven't played for awhile. I've been playing for 20+ years now, but due to my sever osteoarthritis in my hips, mild to moderate osteoarthritis in my back, back trouble in general, and my hands also acting up (osteoarthritis again and I'm only 32 year old), I'm unable to sit at the piano for very long. I'm going to have to start sitting in my dinning room arm chair or my wheel chair to play comfortably. My back ends up hurting really bad after only playing for about 15 minutes or so. I use to play for hours on end. I really miss it. I listen to music as much as I possibly can. Music is my constant companion when I can have my husband and kids turn the TV off. Classical and the relaxing music that's called " New Age " is the best. It's very relaxing and calming. When I have a head ache, if I put a CD on with this kind of music, my entire body relaxes and I can at least ease the headache if not have it go away completely. Same with my arthritis pain, except for the fact that it doesn't go away, but gets more bearable. I play one of my relaxing CDs (I have 3) at night to help me sleep, because I have sleep problems too. Artists like Kenny G, Yanni, and Tesh also are good. And when I'm up for upbeat music, some of my favorite artists like The Eagles, Ronnie Millsap, Denver, Chuck Mangonie, Alabama, and more are great. In the afternoon, evening, and night time, classical, Yanni, Kenny G, Tesh, and my relaxing music are the best. Matter of fact, as I'm typing this, I'm listening to Beethoven. So............. music really does help with pain and other things as well. Also, if you like plants, I've heard about studies where plants grow much better when classical music is played. That's a neat little tid bit now isn't it. I hope that everyone has had a good weekend and has a great week. I do have a question. Do any of you do Yoga ? How has that helped you ? I'm wanting to take a Beginning Yoga Class at our community center which starts up in another week or so. I've already talked with the instructor and she knows of my disabilities and that I'll have to moderate things. She's very willing to work with me and I've been told that Yoga is helpful. Just wanted to know if any out there has tried that and/or meditation. Meditation is also part of Yoga but can be used alone as well. Thanks for the wonderful information on this list and I look forward to participating more often. G. Welcome , its nice to have you join. Particularly the light-weight non-professional kind are easy enough to use in possibly more comfortable positions. Certainly not a Steinway, but........
