Okay -- private question, and feel free not to answer, (or to answer privately), but are you near Willits or Laytonville? You've made me very curious! Guest guest
Thanks Kim! I know dr. k is great cause I just had a surgery with him in May 04 and he was going to at least try to do the stomach partially but he couldnt due to my spleen changing colors. i did have a para esophageal hernia repair done at that time though. so i have already been on dr. ks' wing and think it's great and he is in my opinion an excellent surgeon. i remember how dissappointed i was when i woke up and found out he couldnt even do the gastrectomy. i was mini devastated!!!! I can't imagine the dissappointment that would bring if i wake up and no ds! irene Kim Kaufmann wrote:Irene, Congratulations and welcome - Dr K is great. I'll be happy to send some prayers your way. Guest guest
Thank you! I was going to ask if anyone else was having their surgery close to mine! I was thinking of staying at the EXTENDED STAY AMERICA MOTEL over in Bakersfield after I am discharged from the hospital.they have a recliner in the room along with a kitchen, fridge, stove . microwave, so my husband doesn't have to go out to eat all the time. Do you think 1 week post op in the motel is about average? Irene patricia {pat} wrote: .. I will start taking my protein jan 1st. I wouldn't get too much protein as what you like now,you may not after surgery...Have you gotten the binder yet?? If so use that baloon and get those lungs ready for surgery. If you haven't just go down somewhere and get some and start blowing them up 2 or 3 times a day...Vit B?? We don't have to take extra vit b,but yea take the calcium before won't hurt...You are right this is a life saving/changing surgery, and I wish you the best on your quest for a new life..You will have a walking buddy by the name of Steve ,and the day before so you will be in good company God bless, and good luck Pat

Congratulations on beating up your insurance company and getting approved -- I did my dance through those hoops more than two years ago. Where in Northern CA are you from? I'm in Healdsburg (if you know where that is)! There is usually plenty of zinc in your multi, and there are risks from getting too much zinc, although usually we don't have to worry about it (we can take 50 mg/zinc daily for a month, usually with no problem), but only if you need it. Dr. K's handbook has the information about that (it's online, too). The B vitamin aren't stored, except for B-12, so you excrete them daily. Whether you take extra calcium depends upon your status (pre- or post-menopausal). Exercise is a great thing -- both preop and postop (when you are allowed to). It will help your lungs and the condition of your body and it will even help prevent blood clots, so that is the single most effective thing you can be doing. Good luck with it. So, again, WELCOME IRENE! And, please know that prayers are, of course, yours! Hugs and blessings, Ann
