Well, Thank You Jim for clarifying that. I do not have time to chew

each bite for thirty minutes! lol

Thanks, Jim. I told you it was a dumb question. There had to be some

logical answer and you provided it. Thanks again.

They want you to take 30 min. to eat your meal and to chew each bite

well.

Believe me, there will be times in that first year when you will

have food in your mouth and you suddenly realize there is no-way you

will be able to swallow it. Because the time you took between bites,

you had the delayed " i'm stuffed to the brim " reaction. Sooo when

you eat in the beginning it is advisable to take small bites, put

down your fork, chew well, swallow, wait a minute, then take another

bite. By eating slowly you give your body time needed to react to

the food and this can help keep you from vomiting due to eating

that " one bite too many " .

After you have " recovered " and your stomach has had time to heal you

can eat and chew normally. Although it is always a good idea to

chew your food well.

Congradulations on your nearing surgery Terri! I thought the " Chew

> each bite 30 times " was for RNY patients?! Is it also for DS

> patients?

> : C.

===============================

the chew food 30 times is for LIFE with the RNY. Chewing

your food well is during the healing process with the DS. Your

tummy has be assulted by the surgery and needs a bit of time to

heal, so treat it gently at first.

Hi , the whole sentence was a typo. It should have read to

take 30 minutes to eat your meal.

Terri in Paso and only 4 days to go now

LOL, WOW - I missed that line in the binder! Would it have mattered

though? Probably not! I have tried in the past to chew each bite for

even 3 minutes and the food tends to dissolve in your mouth by the

time you chew several times (unless it is some REALLY tough and dry

beef jerkey!) I have always been a gulper and a swallower, not a

chewer.....I tend to finish eating before anyone else is half

through, I rarely chew completely and I probably SHOULD chew better

for digestions sake, but I have had no ill effects from NOT chewing

so until it causes a problem I am not planning to change my habits!

30 minutes? WOW? That's a new one for me!

WHEW!! 30 minutes to eat a full meal makes much more sense! Yes, I do

gulp my drinks and I don't always chew food as long as I probably

should BUT I do now take my time with meals compared to my previous

eating habits! I have learned to read my body well and if I even feel

a twinge that I am close to getting full, I will wait a few minutes

and usually I get a complete feeling of fullness without feeling over-

stuffed. Rarely do I ever get over-full and vomiting hasn't happened

since immediately post-op....
