Hi ,

Here's what you do.

Give them all names and feed them until they die of natural causes. You now

have some pets for the children, and have learned a valuable lesson about

leaving this sort of thing to the professionals?!?

, My husband Harvey has written an article on butchering

poultry, which he will send (actually already has sent) to you. Hope

this helps.

Go to www.mcmurrayhatchery.com and get their 800 number. They not only sell poultry, they are an excellent source of information on just about anything that relates to poultry. They have experts there that can help or give you places to check for info.

They also sell the cones you need for butchering and all the other equipment. All I know is, once you have killed them, you have a big pot of hot water handy, dunk them and have rubber gloves on and you and just rub off the feathers. If they are colored birds the pins are more prevelant because they are darker.

I take my birds to a place that does all that so I don't have to.

OT--HELP! Butchering 4 roosters

Hi,I need a little recommendation. I have 4 (very tame and sweet) little roosters staring up at me from a box I just bought from a farmer, with my 2 sad children staring up at me too and about to cry because we have to butcher these boys.Anyone have any good websites to refer me to, in order to know how to butcher and clean them? A tall order I know, and this is a new adventure for this city girl. But I figure I have to take the plunge. I am a little worried about the gore and if I can really can do it. And it is a little sad because these things are so tame. Okay I'm getting a little teary-eyed.SO silly (wiping eyes--regaining composure). Anyway, if anyone has any helpful suggestions. I feel like the death ghoul, holding my cleaver and getting all the stuff ready. The farmer told me I needed a good cleaver, some newspaper and rope, then boiling water and get ready to pull out the guts, etc. OMG! What have I gotten into? heehee. Happy ending on the rooster story--well happy for me, not the little roosters.

We got

them butchered today by a 65 year old Ukranian immigrant man here in our town.

Not

only did he love doing it, but he took pride in doing it. It reminded him of

his homeland

and living on his Ukraine farm. He has spent 7 years in prison in Russia for

being a

Christian...interesting tidbit. A very sweet man. Anyway, the roosters are

safely in the

freezer now under wraps, for whoever is interested.
