Guest guest
Well, this is interesting to me. I hope more people weigh in on this thread. I think that cow milk here in WI goes for $2.50 to $3 per gallon at the farms around here, but I am not sure about pasteurized milk in the store. Goat milk is $18 a gallon, and I do barter/ work exchange if someone wants to. Normally they don't. The people who have complained the loudest about prices have always been the people with the most money. My college student customer who works part time at the grocery co-op is the most supportive, and the only one who takes me up on bartering. I priced my milk on my costs, and I pay myself labor, non-organic prices around here for goat milk is $12 per gallon. Dona Life is too short to eat grocery store cheese.http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/naturaldairyanimalshttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/JeffCoWI-freecycle
Guest guest
Raw cow milk ranges from $3.50 to $7.50 per gallon here in NH. Can’t even touch goat milk for under $10, at least that I’ve been able to find. Pasteurized/homogenized cow milk ranges from $2.75 (Costco) to $3.50 (local corner store and Wal-mart). Guest guest
I do shares, but per gall price works to about $5 for cow and $7 for goats. At that, since I do not have an economy of scale my labor costs are covered at only about 20 cents a gall. It would be cheaper for me to get a job and buy it. But….other factors mean I will not get another job, w/ children/hosing etc, and the farm is in my blood. If I were able to move up to 2 ½ -3 x the volume and us a milking machine I would see a return. www.MajestyFarm.com It must be obvious that liberty necessarily means freedom to choose foolishly as well as wisely; freedom to choose evil as well as good; freedom to enjoy the rewards of good judgment, and freedom to suffer the penalties of bad judgment. If this is not true, the word " freedom " has no meaning. – Ben Moreell From: Dona Sent: Saturday, January 22, 2005 4:23 PM To: RawDairy Subject: Re: Farmer/Customer/Prices Well, this is interesting to me.
