For most people it all comes together somewhere between 1 & 2 years post op. When it does we stop losing weight. 1. as we are further post-op we are able to eat more. Therefore taking in more calories. 2. our bowel adapts. It becomes more effecient at absorbing calories. It will actually grow rounder, creating more surface area for absorption. 3. By the time we are a year post op we weigh much less. When we weigh less we need fewer calories to maintain our weight. There comes a point where we can eat enough to meet our calorie needs at a lower weight. We can help to extend our weightloss window by Not over eating. By avoiding empty calories (sugar). By exercising, creating more muscle mass, therefore, a higher metabolism because muscle burns more calories.

Guest guest
Thanks Vicki! I don't have a medical answer to your question but Dr. K told me once that we DO start absorbing more calories as time goes by. No, we never go back to the way we were, but it might explain why our window closes. Hugs! Tracey > > > > Hi everyone! > > > > I had to post and brag. Sorry!
