(think mash potatoes and gravy) Your getting in very few calories, so the carb calories don't hurt. After Dr. K tells you to progress your diet you should really be focusing on protein and potatos are more of a treat or a nibbled on side dish. Guest guest
Early post-op (the first 4-8 weeks) instant garlic mashed potatos or mashed potatos with cheese and bacon went down very easy, didn't case nausea, and also was very filling. The gravy tended to make me queasy.....but garlic or cheese ones were wonderful! Instant potatos were also creamier and smoother! Once I was able to eat more " solid food " I started avoiding potatoes and focused more on protein (and pizza, tacos, and fried chicken - yes, I was a BAD girl! . I still love flavored mashed potatos, but I do save them for special treats, and I never eat them plain, LOTS of real bacon and cheese for me! French Fries, tater tots, and other potatos I simply avoid, they just feel like wasted calories.....I would rather use that space in my tummy for meat, meat, meat, and all the other yummy treats I can eat! For me, well, being 2 1/2 yrs out, I like the fiber and vitamins in potatoes. They are one " white " food that doesn't cause me problems. Actually, I am finding that this far out I can eat some white foods. I ate a dozen cookies yesterday, butter ones, and didnt' have any ill effects. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I meant to share them, but somehow they all ended up in my own mouth! Damn Costco! Marta
