Donna,

What a great Christmas present you are giving yourself. I know that you will be

just fine. I was in Delano for 2 weeks because of complications. I brought my

playstation 2 with games for the hotel, movies and such but never used any of

it, too sick. But, I did bring some crossword puzzles and a etch pad with some

cool pens to color and draw with that I did use. Make sure you bring credit

card with id, lots of clothes. Also, having your own pillow there might be a

good idea. I brought some lotion with me that Carmen used on me after my baths,

she is such a sweetheart. Chapstick is also a good one to remember. I bought

bottled water and stuff to drink and eat after. Sugar free yogurts (dannon

light) helped a lot. But you may even send your support person out to get you

kfc mashed potatoes with gravy. Please call me or give me your number so I can

call you. If you are staying at the best western, I can call you just give me

your last name. I will be thinking about you and praying for a smooth

transition for you. God bless.

Hi out there. Okay I am two weeks out from my surgery date of 12/27

and NEED some LOVE! and others have helped me with some of my

questions but I am now opening up in hopes you all will let me in on

the NEED TO KNOWs? I would like to know everything that you guys

already know cause you've been there done that but wish some one had

told you. Any hints on what to take to hospital and what I will

need at hotel. Anything you think would be helpful PLZ share.

I got kind of wigged with the death of patient from Bakersfield

(anyone heard anything else on that?) but put everything in

perspective quickly after Joes e mail and s!

I found Dr. K nice, but very business like. My confidence is

confirmed by all that you have to say about him in your posts.

Also does anyone know of someone that does psych evals that is in or

near the building Dr. K is? I remember getting her card but have

misplaced it.

Thanks so much for any encouragement you can give this scaredy cat.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I'm in Marta's camp on this one. The only thing I took to the

hospital was what was on my body...which was a muumuu and a pair of

house slippers. No undies, nothing, nada, zip. I figured I'd be

walking into the hospital and stripping anyway so why have a bunch

of stuff to tote around. But I was a local and figured all I had to

do was holler and it could be brought to me.

So things that may be wise to take to the hospital

chapstick

Kotex (many women start their periods in the hospital)

Liquid bath soap (Carmen request this for bathing you)

Hair brush and bands to keep hair pulled out of your face.

Toothbrush and paste

lotion

favorite shampoo

Slip on houseshoes

Robe

Keep it simple. You won't be able to concentrate much to read or do

puzzles (drugs) You will be constantly dozing off. And when your

awake the nurses will be in there doing their thing, your support

person will talk to you and you can be off on your walks and

visiting in the halls and doorways.

At the hotel???? I don't really know cuz I didn't have to go that

route, but....a couple ideas. You more than likely won't be able to

sleep Flat. So some way of sleeping propped up is needed. Either a

recliner, lots of pillows, a beanbag to recline into.....

I would also have on hand some acidolphilus to start taking as soon

as you get to the hotel. The antibiotics and rearrainging your

intestines really can do a number on your system and the

acidolphilus really does help bring it under control faster. My

sister-in-law didn't listen to me on this one...a month later her

bowel movements were still out of control. I asked her if she was

still taking her acidolphilus. She said she never did take any. I

sent her sore butt to the store and within 3 days she was claiming a

miracle! lol.

a peri-bottle will also be a huge help in the first couple weeks.

Your movements are usually very loose and sort of explode out your

butt in the beginning. Being able to rinse your rear really helps

with the soreness from over wiping and feeling cleaner. Marta made

peri-bottles out of shampoo bottles that have the kind of cap that

you push on one end to rock open. Babywipes can also help you feel

cleaner.

On this subject...a way of wiping your butt. Either with the use of

tongs or using your support person. If your using your support

person a supply of rubber gloves may be appreciated. Don't assume

that if you can reach to wipe Now that you will be able to after.

Hugs

Jo

Donna,

I am three weeks from surgery date and just as nervous. I also have

been curious on what exactly to bring. I don't have to stay in a

hotel being I live only and hour and half away in Paso Robles. Good

luck on your surgery and I will say a prayer for a speedy recovery

for you.

Terri,

You may want to double-checl\k that with Dr. K. and the office. His normal

rule for post-op d/s is no more than 30 minutes from Delano and Bakersfield

is right on the extreme limit of what he was allowing. I'm sure Paso is

way too far in case anything happens.

Hi Jerry,

I put in a call to Dee to check for sure. A friend of mine that had

the surgery came home after being released from the hospital. She

also lives in Paso. I'm glad you brought this up though because if

this is the case I need to plan now.
