I am so sorry for your increased stress with both LO in two different

hospitals and you wondering if you are coming or going!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to share with you that my dad does what your Mom is doing. Drooling,

ridged, leaning to the right or sometimes the left. It seems to last about a

day. When he gets like this I have the NH put him in a recliner chair to try

to help relax his body. I try to massage his back and neck. When he is

drooping to the side I try to erect him to no avail. I get down on the floor

to his level to look into his eyes and ask him if he is down there and he

replies with a smile sometimes and says yes. He has no control over this but

knows what's going on.

Thinking about you. Try to take a few minutes for yourself during this time.

Oh, Mariea, but it is pouring at your house! May your husban'd biopsy be

quick, pain free, and most importantly, negative.

Did the doctor pay attention to your list of meds for your mom? What a

frightening experience. Will be waiting to see the outcome.

Best to you all,

Cheryl

Cheryl,

I'm still going rounds with the doctors. They suspect a UTI and are waiting

on a culture. They have started her on antibiotics.

I have told them that Mom has never had this kind of reaction to a UTI. She

has had at least a half dozen reactions to meds like this.

I had the nurse hold the afternoon dose of the Seroquel. It has basically

been tripled in the amount she is to get per day.

She should go back to the NH tomorrow. Her doctor doesn't have privileges at

the hospital yet. He will in three weeks. But if things haven't changed by

the time Mom goes back to the NH, he'll work with me on the meds. This is

the kind of doctor he is. I called to talk to him and he personally answered

the telephone. I think he was at home. And told me, as he had said in the

past to call any time I have a question about Mom. He should be talking to

the Psychiatrist tonight about the med.

I think the doc that saw Mom in the ER increased the med, because Mom was

quite agitated. Big surprise, take a person with dementia out their

environment and have a bunch of people poking and prodding at them....

Thanks for asking and listening.

Good for you. Tripling the Seroquel is flat out scary! So glad her regular

doctor is so open. The smart ones are. Good luck getting Mom back to the NH

tomorrow - sounds to me like she's better off there! Cheryl

Mariea,

I'm very sorry about your mother and husband and hope you get good reports

and good results with both.

Mariea, I do hope the physicians adjusting your mother's meds make her and

you more comfortable.

I have been playing this chess game since 1983. We have gotten through some

very dramatic, acute reactions to medication or reactions to stress. For

example, once, twelve years ago, Harv froze like a standing bronze statue,

literally, and couldn't even bat an eyelash for about twenty minutes.

I'm satisfied with his medical care. Harv's symptoms normally fluctuate

greatly. I know that the underlying disease is unaffected and that what I am

concerned with basically is management, trying to understand and deal with

whatever develops.

When some people see my husband for the first time, they may be horrified

because, depending on the fluctuations in his condition, his bib could be

soaking wet, his posture bent over, and his ability speak, react to

questions, or even move lost. Then, there are the other times when Harv is

quite alert and responsive, his posture is more erect, and his drooling

stops. Even when he appears " out of it " he may actually be very aware of his

surroundings. When he is " at his best " he still requires constant supervision

and help with all the ADLs. He has been sick for a very long time, so none of

this surprises me.

Again, best wishes for better days.
