diabetes and loss of eye sight

For a couple of days I've been thinking about how I could help an 87 yr old

gentleman who lost almost all his eyesight due to diabetes. I don't know much

about his health history, or possible medication he is using, just that his

eyesight has deteriorated as to be called blind , this sad situation compounded

now by depression. What can I suggest nutrition wise, or with supplements which

are not too complicated for him to follow. He lives 400 km away, in a

residential for elderly citizens with next to no say about the meals.

I would be very indebted for any useful suggestions.

Warmly

Hanneke-Australia

If he has Type II diabetes then there is good reason to believe

that it can be controlled via diet. However, since he has no say

over his meals, well, he's SOL.

Here are some books that discuss the diet-diabetes relationship:

- " Protein Power " by A. Eades, D. Eades

- " Neanderthin " by Ray V. Audette

If his eyes have been damaged then it's not clear that anything

can be done at this point about his blindness.
