> For people, coconut oil is about the worse you can digest. Its one

of those that really builds up the plaque in our arteries. At least

that's one even the AMA says to stay away from and you know those

guys. They are on the side of big money over health every day of the

week.

K.C. and all on the grain free thread,

I've remained silent on this whole grassfed/grain thing. Mainly

because I've not had the time to reply to any of it (putting in more

overtime than ever before at work). But I have 2 things I'd like to

address.

The 1st is that I am totally thrilled to have a local farmer willing

to commit to twice a day milking and all that goes along with selling

raw milk from the farm. She and her hubby have 10 acres of organic

farm, which includes the pastures for the milking and beef cows.

They are very conscientious about how they farm and I trust them to

supply the healthiest milk and eggs that can be bought locally.

Although her cow is on maternity leave till Jan, I actually spent a

part of my only day off last week to drive 50 miles round trip just

to buy 4 dozen of her eggs. She told me that they are probably soon

to be buying a second Guernsey. So now they will be committing to

yet another chunk of time and hassle to provide quality milk to us

locals. While I was up there last Sunday she said they are having to

supplement COB (corn, oats, barley) and molasses to their pregnant

cow to supplement the slow growing pasture. Does that bother me?

NO!!! I am still thrilled with the quality of the product! And come

mid January when I can buy the raw milk again, I'll be more than

thrilled.

What's my point in all this? Just to say that I'm not a purist when

it comes to food. I am doing so much better than a year ago. We are

incorporating wonderful nourishing foods 75% or more in our diets

than ever before. If the milk has just a tad less CLA because it's

not 100% grassfed - oh well! I know that it's the best local quality

milk I can purchase. Also should mention that there is apparently

enough CLA in it to cause an increase in muscles in my arms - and I

don't get any (shame, shame!) exercise!

The other point I'd like to make is that the comment you made about

coconut oil is because of brainwashing. I have been eating coconut

oil since about the 1st of Feb and have dropped off and maintained a

15lb loss in weight. I feel better, I look better, my skin is smooth

and soft and my face is almost completely wrinkle free, a few very

tiny smile wrinkles under my eyes - and today is my 48th birthday!

The AMA that you mentioned before is NOT where I get my health

information from! Would the AMA approve of full fat raw milk? I

think not! As MAryann mentioned about avocados, so it is with most

foods/supplements that the medical assoc has changed their minds on.

Trans fats - shoot I've known about that since the very early 90's.

It really won't be long till the word is out about the wonders of

coconut oil. The Healing Miracles of Coconut Oil by Bruce Fife will

cure you of any doubts you might have on coconut oil. And the info

that sent the group about the nourishing fats is right on

target too. I have to admit that I haven't had my cholesterol levels

checked since I've been on coconut oil, butter and grassfed beef

including the fat, I have no fears on my health. For one thing

coconut oil is supporting my thyroid, my weight loss, my energy

levels and it tastes wonderful. Nothing is better than a sprouted

wheat bagel liberally slathered with Virgin Coconut Oil and local raw

honey! I would highly recommend that you and others who haven't read

up on the wonders of coconut oil do so as soon as you can! I started

2004 with the resolution to eat God made foods and eliminate as much

man made foods outta our diets as much as possible. And I think He

honors that decision with better health in general (just my opinion

here).

My total point in this rambling reply is that a discussion group of

this type is very informative. All of us have experience with one

thing or another, and it would be of great benefit if we all listen

to the *other side*. In the case of the grassfed/grain supplemented

dairy, both the consumer of raw milk and the producer of raw milk

have experience that we really need to learn. The folks that are

dedicated to small farm, mainly grassfed, organic are on the cutting

edge of providing nutrition to the (currently) minority of people

wanting to improve their health. But they are the ones in the

trenches, doing what they know best for the health of the animals, to

provide a most wonderful healing, delicious milk. When the farmers

on this group speak - we consumers should listen. They are not going

to sit back and do things as other dairy farmers are doing. They

will be trying to make the healthiest cows produce the healthiest

milk. Period. Maybe other dairy farmers aren't. But after reading

hundreds of posts on this group from the farmers, I'm convinced that

they are all wonderful, dedicated folks who are not in it for the

$$$. My own farmer will be going up on her prices this Jan to $6 a

gallon. I have total respect for this increase, considering all she

does to make that rich raw milk sit in my frig.

K.C. I've attached this reply to your post, only because I had to

speak up about the coconut oil. The rest of the ramblings on the

grassfed/grain supplemented dairy cows just got put here because it

had to go somewhere. Not necessarity addressing you or anyone, just

wanted to have my say.

Thanks moderators for allowing this discussion to go on long enough

for all opinions to be stated.

Now, I've got 3 loads of laundry, grocery shopping, Christmas cards

to write, kiwi to juice and lacto-ferment, etc all on my only day off

this week. Gotta go. . .

Rhonda

who's really missing the raw milk and the raw butter! Buying small

amounts of Organic Pastures for my ongoing kefir addiction, but

missing the pleasure of a glass of fresh Guernsey milk.

Steve,

No, not that I'm aware of. I just bought kiwi from a fruit

aquisition at work. Made a batch of kiwi jam (full of sugar) to give

as gifts. And now absolutely have to deal with the leftover kiwi. I

figured that if I put a little RealSalt in it and some raw dairy

whey, leave it on the counter for about 3 days, it should be pretty

good. (I hope). I know that the Grape Cooler recipe from Nourishing

Traditions book (which is where I 1st learned of coconut oil BTW) was

excellent with the huge box of concord grapes my hubby brought home

some 6 or 8 weeks ago. It calls for 16 lbs of red grapes to be

juiced, 1 T of salt and 1/2 cup whey. So I'll be trying a much

smaller batch of kiwi juice just to try it. Will let you know how it

turns out.

Now, I really, really must get a move on or it all won't happen today!

Rhonda

PS Steve, how has eating coconut products affected your health? I'm

just alway curious about these things.
