Guest guest
Has anyone had gall bladder surgery in the past before their DS? It was explained to me that because of the previous surgery the DS surgery will be longer due to possible scar tissue. I am sceduled for DS surgery on Jan.4 and I was just curious of the time the surgery could take. Terri in Paso
Guest guest
Terri, I did ! My gallbladder was removed lap in 1991 and DS in 2003. I had extensive adhesions from previous surgeries when my DS was done. It extended the length of surgery by about 1.5-2 hours...sorry I do not remember how long exactly...Dr Warden almost had to open me up because of the adhesions....but thank goodness he persevered and did me lap. I did have post-op fever of unknown origin. They believed it to be from the lysing of the adhesions though. I also had a lot ofpost-op pain even with the morphine, took a couple of days to calm down. Also believed by the docs to be from the adhesions....So it can be done, but can change the overall picture of length of surgery, pain control etc. HTH and do not mean to scare you at all... Guest guest
Teri, I had alot of scar tissue from my hysterectomy. Dr K cleaned it up while he was in there. He did the Ds, took my gallbladder out and my appendix and did all the scar tissue work in less the 2 1/2 hours! But I am sure every situation is different. I was very glad I had open surgery because I know it would have taken a long time lap and I didn't want to be " under " that long. My surgery was longer than most because of my gall bladder. It was a mess. I had 3 huge stones...and the rest was full of sand. It shredded when Dr removed it and caused a problem. I carried my stones around with me for a while they were bigger than dice about the size of a large marble. I had trouble with my gallbladder for 5 years, my surgeon said I would not survive surgery. So I suffered. Just thought you would like to know that the other side of the coin could cause trouble too. But Dr K is the BEST and whatever he finds he will fix and you will be fine. The annethesiologist is an expert on us over weight people- he knows what to do, so being under a little longer wont be a problem (if it even comes to that). You will do great! Congratulations!
