It is reccomended that you eat chicken at atleast one month out (no sooner).

Although some people still do it (like me for example), I ate chicken at 3 weeks

out. The body does not absorb fats but it does absorb sugars. So, to lose the

most weight, stay away from all sugary foods. Dr. K reccomended that I eat more

fatty foods to help trigger the weight loss but I would rather eat healthy than

to sit on the toilet all morning, lol. I don't care if I lose the weight slowly

only that I continue to lose :) As far as I know, the body still absorbs salt

the same. The white binder that you get from Dee will have all the foods you

can eat in the first month. I guess there is another paper of the foods you

want to avoid after the first month but I never got it. Are you looking forward

to your surgery? What is the date of your surgery? Take care.

I was wondering...How far out do you have to be to eat just regular

chicken? And isnt sodium the salt? Do we absorb salt? Is there a

paper or somthing that says everything we absorb, and everything we

only 1/2 absorb or somthing or...you know what i mean! please help...

I ate part of a chicken breast from KFC on the way home from the

hospital at 4 days post-op.....and chicken was one of the foods I was

able to eat post-op with the least problems.

Chicken was always one of the easiest things for me to digest and

still is one of my favorite foods! I STILL love the skin, but if I

eat it, I plan for bathroom time the next day!

By the way - a disclaimer here - I was one of those who did NOT

follow the typical " binder diet " . I do not recommend my post-op diet

to anyone, I am just stating what worked for me personally.

I had horrible nausea and I DID vomit repeatedly for several weeks

post-op. I found out very early on (at about the 3rd day post-op when

I snuck several bites of Rays mashed potatoes) that solid foods

stayed down and soft and creamy foods came right back up. I pretty

much ate what I wanted from the time I went home although I DID

honestly try several times to do the " post-op soft diet " , solid foods

stayed down and made the nausea disappear while soft and mushy foods

made me queasy and I would vomit until I had dry heaves and was in

terrible pain.

I know am not alone and that there are several others here who ate

the " Taco Bell " diet early post-op as well as KFC, but the binder

DOES recommend waiting a little longer than we did.

And just for those who wonder, Dr Z was well aware of what I was

eating at all times, and he agreed that while eating a solid diet

early on was not recommended, it was better than eating nothing at

all, or vomiting repeatedly. Controlling my post-op nausea took

several weeks (solid foods and nausea medications helped), but once

it was under control I was able to better follow the typical post-op

diet and I did make an effort to be compliant, but I was more

comfortable and satisfied eating what my body tolerated as opposed to

what the book said to eat.
