Guest guest
Hi Janet, yahoo has been doing this for a couple years now. It is becoming very commonly in use by web sites. There is a security program that people might be interested in. It lets you see these web beacons (bugs) on web pages and offers some options for what to do about them. http://www.bugnosis.org/ regards, Bruce Important information about Yahoo Groups Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo Group users around the net and see what you're doing and where you are going - similar to cookies.Take a look at their updated privacy statement: http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacyAbout half-way down the page, in the section on cookies you will see a link that says "web beacons."Click on the phrase "web beacons."That will bring you to a paragraph entitled "Outside the Yahoo Network."In this section you'll see a little "click here to opt out" link that will let you "opt-out" of their new method of snooping. Once you have clicked that link, you are opted out. Notice the "Success" message on the top of the next page. Be careful because on that page there is a "Cancel Opt-out" button that, if clicked, will *undo** the opt-out.Feel free to forward this to your friends! Yahoo is recording every website and every group you visit!!! Janet (List Mom)

Fire walls or spyware programs or anti-virus programs won't detect web beacons. You would need to install and route internet traffic through a local host proxy or use a program such as bugnosis to get any control over web page content that is displayed on your computer. : -) Bruce
Guest guest
I just checked this, and I opted out. It's quick and easy. I HATE these sorts of things going on! Marilyn
Guest guest
Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo Group users around the net and see what you're doing and where you are going - similar to cookies. @@ Um, this is not new or unique to Yahoo. This email about yahoo has been around for YEARS. It has certainly circumnavigated the globe a million times and it is better not to continue to dump this clutter into people's email boxes especially when virtually any commercial website you visit on the Internet does the same thing. Anytime you visit a website that is public the chances are your computer picks up some spy bots that track your movement on the Internet and report back. The best thing you can do to protect your computer is instal good firewall software and good spy bot software that will detect and remove these things.
