Guest guest
My 11 year old AS son is about to enter 6th grade and I'm still on the fence about where to send him to school. He has had good academic success at the private Christian school that he's attended since Kindergarten, but I'm primarily concerned about his emotional well being. This age is sooooooooooo tough anyways and he just doesn't fit into the crowd and of course he know it. The school is supportive, and the kids have accepted J.C. for who he is, but it's still so heart wrenching to watch him struggle socially, so I'm considering home schooling him this year and possibly thru junior high. I know that home-schooling won't make that issue go away for him, but my desire is to protect him from this phase of his life when kids are just so brutle...typically. If home schooled, he will still attend a few selected classes (of his choosing and interests) a week and participate in field trips and other structured events. It's the playground time thats currently so hard for him. Sorry to be so long winded, but I'm hoping for some insight from those of you who have struggled with the same decision and can learn from your experiences.
