Guest guest
Hi Deanna - No, I haven't heard of them, but Jacqui right now is drinking Blue Diamond Almond Breeze (Vanilla & Chocolate) Almond Milk. If (when) I get brave enough to start supplements I thought that would be a good approach. (We're " hiding " the mineral oil in the chocolate beverage now). I think my first supplement may actually be Flax Seed. I have a lot of good information about it's nutritional content and that might be easy to start with. Exercise proves to be a big help also. Jacqui rode her bike a whole mile last night, which is amazing, because a month or so I ago I would've said she wouldn't be riding a bike for who knows how long. Note, we did not teach her. Jacqui learns by observation, and she spent a lot of time watching the neighborhood boys riding there bikes and next thing we knew, there she went. That was quite a day! Guest guest
HI Tamara - Welcome to the group. My daughter drinks Almond Milk. It's called Almond Breeze and is manufactured by Blue Diamond Grower's Co-op. It is a non-dairy beverage made from Almonds. It contains no lactose, 1% fat, contains calcium, vitamins A, D, & E and is cholesterol free. It comes in plain, vanilla, chocolate and I think coffee flavors. It's been a great alternative for us because I believe milk (lactose) just doesn't work for our daughter. Guest guest
Tamara - amd oh, I buy mine at " Trader Joe's " . Not sure where you are, but any whole foods store would probably carry it. I'm glad I live where I do, because when I lived in rural NH, you couldn't find any places like this. Guest guest
My 14 year old with AS (and bipolar) is 5' and 140 pounds. She is dieting, TRYING to lose weight. She's lost about 7 pounds. She's gained 30 pounds this year on Seroquel although my psychiatrist says that is not a side effect.(!) Toodles!>^..^<Maralee Re: NUTRITION/CONSTIPATION My 14 year old son with AS is 5'10" and 116 lbs. I, too, assure MHEVthat it is not for lack of trying that we cannot get him to ingest morecalories. His psychiatrist, a trained medical scientist, tells us thathe is often too distracted or excited to eat. Other times, he may eatenough for four. Further, the medications for his AS and bi-polardisorder have side effects noted by other scientists as affectingappetite and metabolism. I am no nutritionist or scientist and I do notdenigrate either profession; rather, I am a parent struggling to bringorder and happiness into the life of a loved child and hope that wecould find more helpful and encouraging posts in the group whether theyoriginate from "experts" or mere parents.
