Nauseous During Training

I have a 16 year old male athlete who has been strength training

with me for nearly 2 years. He is one of the hardest working and

most intense athlete I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

The problem is that 75% of our upper body workouts usually end with

him vomiting or on the verge of vomiting.

He trains with me once a

week and trains at his school 3 day s a week. He said he usually

only feels that way during upper body workouts. I wasn't very

concerned in the beginning as I have experienced the same feeling in

many of my workouts. I thought as his body adapted to the intensity

of the workouts it wouldn't happen as much but this has continued

for nealry 2 years now. Last year he saw his family doctor about it

and he told " " that he has nothing was out of the ordinary in

his blood work and not to worry too much about it. I am worried

because of possible damage to his esophagus and his ego. He gets

very down on himself when he feels nauseaus. I don't want him to

fear or hate strength training because of the possible fear of

getting sick. We have tried longer rest periods between sets (2-4

min) and that doesn't seem to help. He is not holdng his breath or

hyperventilating.

He has also tried eating 2-3 hours prior to

workouts and that hasn't helped either. Does anyone have any insight

or remedies for my dilema?
