Guest guest
Question for all of you about the continual Dr. Visits etc. With school.... have you all had difficulty with them about the amt of absences? Mine hit the 8-10 day mark last year and got a ltr from the school saying the next step was the State Attorney's office. Got notes on the day we went to the Dr....but his asthma often wiped him out for 2-4 days sometimes. Neb treatments every 4 hours etc. Then the in between aches....muscle probs. colds and vomiting...they all added up. Is it just me or do I need a note from the Dr. to tell them HOW LONG he'll be out. But.. you never know how long it will take to get these guys up and running again. Des
Guest guest
My oldest is pretty healthy although a bit of a hypochondriac. I try scheduling as many appointments as possibly after school. If not I do them after lunch. They don't count leaving early against you, but if you are more than an hour or two late I don't think they count you at all. He is labeled asthmatic. First grade was a hard year, but everyone seemed very understanding. I think the younger you are the less it is important. Luckily we have not had any asthma related illness in 3 years now. What a huge relief. My youngest started prek at age 2 and missed soo much school. Poor kid caught everything. I think he missed more days in one year than my oldest has combined and he's going to 5th! Noone ever mentioned going over any certain amount of days. Again though I guess prek isn't the same as even k. I fear he may always be prone to colds and whatnot so this may become more of an issue later on. I hope not though! a > Question for all of you about the continual Dr. Visits etc. With > school.... have you all had difficulty with them about the amt of > absences? Guest guest
That's awful! 8-10 days brings threats? How UN-supportive is that? It's not like we are begging our kids to stay home...they are SPECIAL NEEDS kids...not typical ones....ugh. Don't get me started! Toodles!>^..^<Maralee Re: aches/school absences Question for all of you about the continual Dr. Visits etc. With school.... have you all had difficulty with them about the amt of absences? Guest guest
I have all 'check up' type appointments after school too, and their regular therapies, and stuff. Its the 'wake up' thing we have problems with.......... are they sick ... or not? Vomiting is the biggy here. If I don't find a fever, I send them. 50% of the time I get a call in a hour to come get! *sighs* Making that 'call' in the morning is a real toughy. I'm hoping for a better this year with the asthma. This past year we changed Drs. This new guy is a 'specialist' in Asthma kids and put him on preventatives. Before that... it was treat it AFTER it got bad. < sheeeeeeesh! I hate the juggling act. Trying to fit all these appointments in, haggling with Drs. offices explaining we HAVE to have one after school, and specific days and times. Can we get a secretary for the year? Guest guest
Yep.. Our annual IEP meeting is in November. Already have that on the list to get put in. It just 'got to me' last year.... the standard issue answer; " well thats the rules.... report sent to the States Attorney's office...blah blah blah " Then I got crazy on my kids under the pressure. Icy days... I couldn't get them there safely. This school NEVER closes! I can't get them up and dress in time for the bus... 2 special ones that need physical assistance to dress. Bus comes at 6:50am! I'm NOT getting these guys up at 5am! Am hoping things smooooooooth down a bit this year. *same hope different year LOL* DES
Guest guest
Wow, Des, that's tough! Our bus comes at 8:00; school starts at 9:00. It's very do-able. Plus the drivers have been patient with Beth because she hates to be entirely ready when the bus comes...her anxiety kicks in then. She 'needs' to be 'almost ready' and still have to put her shoes on or something...to help her fill that anxious time between ready and when the bus comes. It's strange, but I observed that and finally figured it out last year....so as long as the drivers are patient.....and they have been thus far. Toodles!>^..^<Maralee Re: aches/school absences Yep.. Guest guest
The year of Beth's 7th grade (the year from hell), I absolutely HATED calling into the school to tell them she wouldn't be there. After a few of those calls, I began to "feel" the secretary's judgment passing through those phone lines....I tried to explain....but she's a civilian (someone who has no experience with special needs kids!)....and I know she thought my kid was just controlling me. After I had enough of that attitude, I mentioned it to the social worker who tried to calm my feathers. Ok, maybe *some* of it was my reading into it because *I* felt so bad about the situation....Maybe. Just maybe. : ) This was the year that she had all the bladder problems that we couldn't figure out...plus it was public school and she was in a BD class with 10 boys and one other girl...she didn't belong there! School became terrifying to her emotionally and it was harder and harder to get her there each day. And we didn't. Obviously. Ok. The End. : ) Toodles!>^..^<Maralee Re: aches/school absences I have all 'check up' type appointments after school too, and their regular therapies, and stuff.
