My 26 year old daughter has a pilonidal cyst which is oozing. Her

doctor want to her to have surgery, but my research indicates that

it's a nasty process (ongoing packing of the wound, etc). I'd like

to know if there is anyway to use clay or any other alternative

modality to clean this out.

When I had one 20 years ago, I was told to get some Boil Ease,

put it on and cover it with a cloth and a hot water bottle. It began

to drain some and then a doctor gently milked the rest out.

No surgery and great results. I'd suggest that if possible.

Hi Sandy:

Cysts respond very slowly to clay therapy due to the very nature of cysts.

I assisted in the treatment of a different kind of cyst ( still subdermal )

in the same region of the body that was non-draining, as a research

experiment. A great deal of physical discomfort was relieved, and a slight

reduction was noticed in the size of the cyst. If the individual would have

continued with the clay packs, eventually the cyst may have been eliminated.

Sustained treatments can be difficult in cases where the need is not

critical, due to busy lifestyles and the effort of preperation. The test

was a five day treatment, three hours daily.

That said, I've never personally seen clay not respond well with a cyst that

is already draining. I have no experience specifically with pilonidal

cysts, but the underlying principles are the same. You would likely know

within 72 hours how effect the treatment would be.

With any type of cyst that is not to a point of draining, I rarely utilize a

clay pack, for the above mentioned reasons; the exception would be if the

individual had the time and inclination to continue the treatment long term.
