Guest guest
Hello everyone, I wanted to let you all know how my ENG test went today. For those of you who don't know, this is a balance test. The sole purpose of this test is to make you have a dizzy spell so they can record the brain waves during the episode. My husband had one of these a few months ago at another place, so I was a little familiar with it, but when I got there I realized that they do things a little differently at my doctor's. They use a pair of goggles that have tiny cameras in there to record your eye movements. The tech explained to me that I had to keep my eyes open during the test or we would have to repeat it. I ended up having 4 episodes of vertigo during the test, all recorded. Only once did I close my eyes, and the tech said, " You closed your eyes, let's start over... too bad, because something was starting to happen there. " The first episode was when she told me to lean forward and very quickly turn my head to the left and lay back, head hanging off of the table. She told me she would support my head. Sounds easy, right? Well, I forgot to mention that these goggles are closed in and completely dark, and remember, I had to keep my eyes open at all times. Try focusing on nothing. Easier said than done. When I went back, head to the left, everything seemed fine. I thought nothing was going to happen, then that feeling I get hit me and I told her, " It's happening! " and she said, " I know honey, keep those eyes open, you're doing great. " She was really excited because she was getting good readings, but normally when I have these dizzy spells, I HAVE to close my eyes. I started crying because it is a scary feeling and it was such a tremendous effort to force myself to keep my eyes open! When it was over, she sat me up, was very compassionate and allowed me a few minutes to compose myself. Another spell happened when she had me turn from my front to my side, but it was mild in comparison. The last two occurred when she blew the cold and hot air into my ears. She had me count backwards from 100 during this, and when the feeling hit me, I couldn't concentrate enough to do it. I didn't really feel dizzy, but things were not feeling right. I asked her when it was over if something happened just then and she said yes. Unfortunately. I won't have the results until next Friday. The test was uncomfortable because of what happened but I am glad it happened while they could record it. The technology amazed me and, afterward, she checked her computer and backed it up where the really bad episode was and showed me and my husband how crazy the brains waves were during that time. I know I blathered on forever. I apologize, but I just wanted to share this experience with you. I am hoping for some answers soon. Hope everyone is doing okay...
