Guest guest
Dear Stilligans, This was a long day and I'm happy, but tired! When Ginger arrived at the hospital this morning, she'd already started labor! How funny ... the day she was to be induced. They did end up giving her Pitocin to speed up the process and help contractions progress. By the time she was 3 cm., the contractions were peaking fairly high. The anesthesiologist came in and gave her an epidural. Everything progressed fairly quick after that, but she had a hard time delivering this baby. Her blood pressure dropped to 70/40, as did the baby's, so she had to be given medication to bring her pressure up. It worked well. She's a small boned girl, but was a trooper and delivered a 9 lb. 2 oz., 21" baby boy with a head circumference of 13". His heart was beating when he came out, but he wasn't breathing. Rather than call a code, the OB asked for "assistance." The baby gave intermittent gasps for air now and then. My Mom looked at me (yeah, look to the former nurse....) and the look on my face turned everyone pale. Ginger was upset and began to cry. I believe he aspirated fluid. They gave him oxygen, performed suction, and even put a NG tube down to suction fluid from his lungs. The sad part is he has to be in the NICU for a day or two to be watched and receive oxygen. Ginger was only able to snuggle him for a few seconds before he was taken away. Hopefully, she'll be able to visit the NICU tomorrow. (Daddy) has already visited the NICU and seems very happy and proud. The baby hasn't been named yet. They're still having trouble deciding. It will probably be or Sebastian . is 's given name. Before we left, Ginger had some hemorraging. They were able to give an injection to stop that. The pain medication made her sick, so she was an exhausted mess by the time she was put in her room. The nice thing is the hospital's rooms are all private, and the rooms for recovering Mom's have double beds. Thank you Liz, Terry, Carey, Sharon, Ginger, Betty, Marilyn, Melt, and Carmen for your kind words. Your caring is much appreciated! Please say a prayer for them, the baby is not out of the woods yet. I'll keep you updated. Melt, I hope your best friend and daughter are doing well. I had C-sections with complications each time, it can be difficult. I hope it was easier for your girlfriend. I'm off to bed. Everyone's Holiday plans are going well, I hope. Me ... well, I still have a lot to do, but shopping is mostly done. Joy to all! Peace, Barbara
