" Just once, it would be nice to see a celebrity educate himself or herself on Autism Spectrum Disorders before speaking out and making a fool of himself or herself. It would also be nice to see a celebrity educate himself or herself on Autism Spectrum Disorders before making life more difficult than it already is for individuals and families dealing with Autism. Bryne has stated in interviews in 2006 that he was 'borderline Aspergers.' Now in more recent interviews, he claims to have been Autistic and that it wore off after a while. That's like saying that is no longer a black man because his skin 'wore off' to the point where he is now a white man. No one in their right mind will ever claim that is caucasian because his skin is lighter now than it was 20 years ago. And would never claim to be caucasian just because he no longer has skin as dark as it once was!!! Simply suffering from anxiety is not enough to claim a diagnosis of Autism. Simply being outrageously quirky is not enough to claim a diagnosis of Autism. And if Byrne WAS Autistic in the past, then he IS Autistic in the present. Only a licensed accredited medical professional educated in diagosing Autism Spectrum Disorders can say with certainty if you are or are not Autistic. In the meantime, it would be nice to have a day go by without hearing some celebrity making ridiculous claims that provide fodder for misinformation and disinformation to circulate in society, endangering and harming those who deal with Autism every day all for the sake of garnering attention from the media in order to promote the latest commercial release!
