Guest guest
Hi everyone, My name is and I am a stay at home mom to 2 beautiful kids. My is 6 months old and my Maxwell is 2 years old. We live in San . It's Maxwell I'm worried about. I suspect that many of his behaviours fall into the austism spectrum. I'm very new to this whole situation and I know very little, so I'm here for education and help. The main problem Max has, or the most noticeable, is that he doesn't talk. I know another boy that spoke no words at all when he was Max's age and truth be told, Max speaks more than he did. Max has a handful of words and a few signs, but no more. His other behaviours are: Perfectionism - chairs have to be lined up exactly the same distance from each other and the dinner table. He copies my husband's computer work and gets it right -- DAYS later. If something doesn't get done the way he wants it to, he keeps at it and at times is frustrated and screams until I do it for him. (This might be typical toddler behaviour.) He spins. I did, too, as a child, so I don't know if it's compulsive or normal. (I showed him how to spin, actually.) He stares off into space at times. (I know I didn't teach him that! lol!) He also has what we jokingly termed 'selective hearing loss' - he ignores us. I have to physically touch him and speak his name to get him to turn around and look at me or stop whatever behaviour he's doing. Thanks for listening... ~
Guest guest
, I live in SA along with quiet a few others on this list who may not post as much but are a great support. Feel free to call and come by my house to meet my child who did some of those things and a lot of other things that you didn't mention. He may not be on the spectrum but it may help to see one that is (my kiddo is 3-almost 4 with an amazing visual memory). I might suggest a referral to see Dr. at the Village of Hope to rule out autism. If it is autism, then you can get busy with what may help Maxwell. I might also recommend Dr. Vernon but he is booked with the Repligen Secretin study until about July. ECI-Brighton, Easter Seals or PACES in SA should be able to provide you with at least free speech therapy because of his speech delay. Guest guest
Hi Hope, Thank you for these websites. I will look at them today. (Kids are napping. yay!) One thing we're working on is a GF/CF diet as well as avoiding eggs, since they seem problematic for him. He does much better when we follow it, but it's so tough dealing with diet, a toddler, and a new baby. Oh, and a husband if you want to count him as a child. We also avoid dairy since Max doesn't like milk and nor do I. Cheese is our downfall, though! We're both big cheese eaters. I use some in cooking, and some eggs in cooking, but not a whole lot. I'm going to get in touch with the county and see if I can get Max into the 0-3 program. Thanks for the suggestion. My only fear about that is that we don't vaccinate anymore. Max was vaccinated until 9 months of age and I stopped. My daughter isn't vaxed at all. I'm afraid that once we utilize the system, they'll get on us for not vaxing or threaten to take my babies from me. I'm so afraid of that. I will check the websites and get in touch w/ the school district, though. We'll start there. Thank you. ~ San > , > > If I could go back in time to when my son was 2 years old, I'd read the > following websites: www.megson.com, > www.healing-arts.org/children/holmes.htm > The GF/CF DIET (I'm not sure of their website but several > children regain or increase their > speech after going dairy free, for a lot of children dairy and wheat are > major allergens. I do not know any autistic children personally, I've only seen one in a move and then the same child on a TV show once. I think he is what one would term autistic savant. I'm not sure, though. Guest guest
we're dairy free and egg free too. good vegan cheese sources: tofutti singles (the best-melts and tastes like the real thing)-available at kosher stores. haven't seen at whole foods. soymage (a soyco brand) vegan cheese (hard cheese in a brick. doesn't melt well, looks more like tofu. i'm not a fan, but my daughter loves it. very hard to find; only 1 of 2 sun harvests in austin carries. whole foods doesn't. i love the book, special diet celebrations...it has recipies with egg/wheat/gluten/soy/sugar/dairy alternatives. it has 2-4options to substitute. great cookie and cake recipes. all my daughter's friends on " regular " diets like the recipes...so you know they are good. take care, jennifer Re: New Member Intro - needing support Hi Hope, Thank you for these websites. What does dairy have to do with myelin? Is this just that they think it is the only source for EFA's, A & D or is there some other reason? Guest guest
Gaylen, That's it, you got it. The American diet is dairy based when it comes to the children. Which I agree w/you'll, the EFA can be obtained from other sources. Just this past Thursday, I had two 3rd year medical students come visit and one of them just couldn't believe we were dairy free until I told him my husband and I were lactose intollerant then he understood and said that our children were most likely lactose intollerant too.
