HI all.

I need some opinions. Without going into a lot of babble ( and that is what I am good with too many long letters with too much detail argh) I need some ideas.

Can someone ( a school) force a person or suggest a person has just a 504 and not an IEP? I used t have all kinds of online links to what the difference is between the two of them. I was wondering if there is one that is better between an IEP or a 504 or are they about the same really?

Can someone tell me if an insurance company can discriminate against ADD and Autism and Learning disabilities ? A friend of mine showed me that her medical insurance has a clause that says, " We cover diagnosing of ADHD, Autism disorders and LD , but we do not cover any therapies or medication or visits for these problems". Something to that effect. Is that legal? Man, to me , it seems VERY illegal. Besides we want to see these kinds of people get help, we can't leave them with a lack fo financial help in these areas. ARGHH

Also, anyone with any ideas about a child with AS who was in high school, and was very bright in K-8, and had excellent grades and if you went some honors classes and some regular and even some Spec ed classes, please ( unless you have already written to me about this) please write to me. I want to hear opinions and ideas and just plain get my mind in gear. My AS son has his IEP and placement meeting for high school on FEB 14. I was not ready for this , at this early of a date. I am not sure what they will suggest, but I am ready for their ideas to clash with mine. I was also told by someone who DOES know, and works at the high school, that " No child with a Spec Ed label has takenan honors classes in this highest school." That kind of statement scares me, and it bothers me and it makes me MAD! I dont like to think that label would make anyone feel less about a person , if they are Spec Ed and also honors material, that is really not impossible , is it? We know that AS and ADHD kids ( both of which my son is labeled) kids fit this profile, and how does one explain that to a school?

THANKS in advance

PS If anyone can respond directly to me in email, I would appreciate this. Thanks

Thanks in advance
