Guest guest
The deadline for submitting comments to the Dept of Education about the proposed regulations on Part B of IDEA 2004 is this Tuesday, Sept 6 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. If you have specific thoughts, please make your comments; it's also helpful to " piggyback " -- expressing support for the comments from disability advocacy groups. Also, this is one time when the easiest way to transmit information -- e-mail -- is also the best. It would be helpful for as many people as possible to do an e-mail identifying yourself and asking the Department of Education to ensure that IDEA continues to protect students with disabilities, by considering very carefully the input of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (copaa.org), the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (http://www.c-c-d.org/legislative_news.htm), and the California Association for Parent-Child Advocacy, and by being very wary of proposals by school districts to limit the protections of IDEA. The correct email address for comments on the IDEA regs is IDEAComments@... . This is a special email address for the IDEA regs comments to ensure that they get to the right office. Commenters should include the words IDEA-Part B in the subject line of the message. For more information, see www.copaa.net or the Notice of Proposed Rule Making from the Dept of Education: http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/01jan20051800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/200\ 5/05-11804.htm . The Notice says that comments sent by regular mail will be delayed for a lengthy period for anthrax screening. It is better to either email or otherwise deliver comments. --------------------------------- Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.
