Sue,

our got his H1N1 shot last Monday (due to his heart defect, he is

considered to be a high risk candidate) and he vomited in his sleep

during the night after the shot. Sounds similar to Sams reaction,

doesn't it?

Three years ago his GI tract kind of slowly shut down over the course of

a few months after his second MMR shot. Strangely his first shot didn't

have any effect at all. Two months after the 2nd shot he needed to be

hospitalized for a whole month and even spent some time in the ICU,

because he could not keep down a single ounce of food anymore.

Eventually he got a ng-tube and had it removed only 4 months later. It

took all that time for his stomach to get over that MMR shot, so

understandably we were VERY reluctant to have him vaccinated again. We

too hope that his 2nd H1N1 shot won't cause any side effects...

I've never heard of this type of reaction to a vaccine, I've heard of

anaphalatic shock, swelling, trouble breathing and localized

discomfort. Is this a typical type of reaction? If not, what made

doctors think it was the MMR that caused his symptoms?

Ruby

the point was NO ONE ever admitted it was caused by the MMR shot - it

was absolutely clear though that it was. His decline started two days

after the vaccination and no doctor was ever able to diagnose his

problem - idiopathic is what they said. From time to time (my wife and I

had lots of time to speak with medical professionals - we were virtually

living in the hospital for 4 weeks) we'd ask the doctors if there was

any possibility the vaccine was involved in it - they would just shrug

their shoulders and say possibly yes, but as there are no studies to

back up this " assumptio " they couldn't say for sure. It certainly is not

a typical type of reaction, but it can happen.
