Guest guest
I recommend the “tough love” approach that Dr. McCandless advocates. Pamela " Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. Guest guest
Natalia, I agree w/Pamela. I give my kids their supplements mixed up and flavored in a syringe 2x/day. They used to not mind and now they hate it. In any event, we do it each day. My oldest I can bribe w/a ride in the cuddle swing. He still hates it but he takes it. My youngest I have to hold down. I don't enjoy the process but they do not like juice, pear sauce, etc. and they have to get their supplements. While it is not pleasant, it is fast and they get over it very quickly. Within seconds afterward, my youngest is hugging me and giggling. Guest guest
I've read her book, but I forgot what her touch love approach is. Is it using a syringe?Pamela Leigh wrote: I recommend the “tough love” approach that Dr. McCandless advocates. Pamela "Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. Guest guest
I've read her comments about this on other boards. Essentially, it's whatever method works to get your child to take the supplements w/the exception of hiding them in foods. So if your child will swallow pills, then it's pills. If it's a syringe, then a syringe. If they'll drink it in juice, I think that's okay too. Essentially, you give your child supplements in the same way you give them medicine. It's just the way it is and they have to accept it. You set the time, the method of delivery, tell them you love them and go for it. If they tantrum or resist, they still have to take their medicine. Recently, I've been having luck w/my son by using a "First and Then" board. We just got a cuddle swing, which he loves. So I tell/show him, first swing, then supplements. He HATES them but he does comply. In fact, he walks over to me and lies down on the floor for me to give him the syringe. I thought once he complied he'd prefer them standing up but I think it's easier for him to swallow fast lying down. Go figure. -----Original Message-----From: mb12 valtrex [mailto:mb12 valtrex ]On Behalf Of BushSent: Sunday, August 26, 2007 12:14 PMTo: mb12 valtrex Subject: RE: Giving supplements, etc I've read her book, but I forgot what her touch love approach is. Guest guest
My son hates everything and so in a syringe for two weeks I would give him straight honey or agave nectar. Then I started putting medicine in it. He is still extremely picky and won't eat anything but he begs for his honey shots. Also he wouldn't chew the chewable pills we call them candy medicine and since he hasn't had candy in over two years he thinks it is great. I know bad idea on calling medicine candy.
