You could help her move the mucus with physio on her back . This worked really well for Sam when he was younger. The other thing that works well is saline in the nebulizer. Sam has asthma and he coughs a lot especially at night , hope it helps

[DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Coughing

My daughter is 7 and she's been coughing for years! It sounds like a bunch of mucus down in her throat and she can't cough it up and spit it out. She's had swallow study done and that turned out fine. She's been tested for allergies and that's fine. She is now on breathing treatments for asthma, but she is still coughing. It's alot of coughing to especially at night. During the day, you can hear the stuff moving around and she tries to clear it.

Does anyone from these groups have any ideas or suggestions?

My daughter is Trisomy 10q / 5p- syndromes. It's frustrating when you can't help her and people out in public think that she is sick because she coughs all the time. I would like to find the cause of this.

Thanks

I would check into a good nutritionist who

does a Loomis urine test and can interpret it. Digestion is a huge

problem for all of us these days especially for our kiddo’s with

DS. Plant (herbal) enzymes are very helpful. I saw a difference in

my son’s sleep overnight when he had the correct enzyme for his

body. The urine tells so much about what your body can process and what

it cannot among many other things such as vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

To research more about this you can look at Lee’s website. She

has tons of free educational articles. She is a chemist and has been

helping people worldwide for 20+ years. I have a local nutritionist who

does a similar urine test to the loomis and uses the plant enzymes.

As far as diet, I would stop any processed

dairy (Raw fresh farm milk from cows or goats raised mostly on grass is fine

and beneficial but processed, pasteurized and homogenized milk, even organic,

is not good at all.) (Check out realmilk.com)

Wheat could also be an issue. A

gluten free diet would be best.

Blessings,

This sounds very similar to the symptoms my daughter had.Could it be a sinus infection? If you press hard right under her eyes and next to her nose, does it hurt? If it does hurt, then she may have a sinus infection but do bring her to the doctor to make sure because she'd need to get antibiotics to clear it up. The same thing happened with my daughter for months before the doctor finally diagnosed it and we had seen her several times. The other question is how long has your daughter been on the asthma medicine and which type of medicine is she taking? It took several tries with different types of medicines and different doses of medicines to get her asthma under

control. What worked for her was one singulair pill at night and two puffs of a corticosteroid called qvar every morning and night. It's best to go to an asthma specialist, if you haven't already. The pediatricians aren't as versed in asthma treatments. Asthma produces extra mucus in the bronchial tubes, so that may be what you're hearing, but an asthma specialist would know about this and you can ask him/her more questions.Good luck,To: trisomy10qgooglegroups; MosaicDS ; downsyndrome <DownSyndromeInfoExchange >;

Oh, one more thing -- she may have reflux and the swallow study may not have caught it. My son (who has ds) had a swallow study and they didn't find anything. Then I took him to an ENT and she put a camera down his throat and she saw that it was very red and inflamed, indicating reflux. The other way to determine if it's reflux is to go to a GI doctor. To: DownSyndromeInfoExchange Sent: Fri, November 13, 2009 7:48:42 AMSubject: Re: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Coughing

This is

probably a long shot, but has she been tested for cystic fibrosis?
