Unprecedented Action Against a Supplement

For the first time the FDA has taken action to ban a dietary supplement --

ephedra. The herb used as a weight-loss aid and athletic performance

enhancer has been linked to heart problems, strokes -- even death.

FDA commissioner Mark McClellan Tuesday said, "If you're resolving to

get in shape in 2004, ephedra is not the answer."
