Hello,

I am new to the group. I am a special education teacher in Texas

and have taught a few students with Autism. I am taking classes to

get my masters in special education. One of the classes I am taking

asked me to do a research paper on a disability. I chose the topic

of Autisms because I would like to understand the disorder better

and be better able to help my Autistic students. This is a disorder

that I want to learn about. I want to find out things that aren't

written in a textbook. I would like to learn more about this

disorder from a parent's point of view to help me understand what

the family is going through and also to help me be a better

teacher. I have a list of 3 questions below and ask that one or two

of the parents who are members of this group would take the time to

answer them.

Thank you for your time and help.

Sincerely,

Lee

1. What is an average day like for you and your child?

2. What are some common educational or communicational problems you

have experienced with your child?

3. What helps you to get through hard times?

4. What would you like the average person or teacher to know about

your child and other children with Autism?

I personally have a disability (visual impairment), because of my

disability I know what it is like to be unfairly judged and not take

seriously. Now that I am a special education teacher I make it my

responsibility to insure the safety and fair treatment of all my

students. Any help you could give me in answering the questions

listed above would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
