Here is what I wrote.  (Tried to sound all legal and stuff, but it did

not come from a lawyer.)

Pursuant to my rights under federal & state laws, I am requesting

that you cease unlawfully using the "more alike than different"

campaign posters and the private pictures of the children contained in

those pictures in your forum. The forum in question on your site can be

found here:

Any and all unlawful use of the posters as well as the private pictures

of the children should be removed immediately. This kind of behavior

can easily be labeled as a hate crime and we will hold your site

responsible.

will immediately file a complaint with the necessary authorities

including an Attorney. Civil and criminal claims will be pursued.

OK, I have calmed down...Bobby had to remove me from my computer. This made me physically sick to my stomach and well, just physically sick. This website has been around for a while. These guys have been doing this kind of stuff for a long time. They are sick, idiots. Unfortunately, there is not much we can do. NDSC will have to deal with this the best they can.

My heart goes out to all who were hit personally. I am not going to give any advise here on what to do next. I would be very careful how you approach this, pick your words carefully if you do decide to contact them. I just read 's letter and that should be as far as you take this. What they have done is illegal since they were not given permission to use these images. I would use the words "hate crime" to describe this. I would not however call media attention to this in anyway. This is what these jerks want and they mentioned something to the effect in their posts. Let's not give them what they are looking for. NDSC has done the right thing by sending out letters to all who have been involved. We need them to take care of this and keep us updated. I don't think anyone who is not personally involved should contact these creeps. Something like this happened years ago and a lot of parents bombarded the

website and they started targeting the parents individually. So please be careful.

There are very bad people out there but we don't have to be.

Does anyone know where the posters are being posted so I can see if my son's

poster got hijacked?

I got the same message from NDSC.

They said they have closed the voting until they find out who it is. I hope they

prosecute because I am behind the prosecution whether my child s involved or not

as one of the posters stolen.

They should have had something in place where you cannot copy the photos.

I found the site by doing a search engine. In order to post or find out the

profiles of these worthless jerks/criminals, you have to pay $9.95. However, I

painfully went through all the posts to see if my son's poster was there and I

discovered that the instigator actually made a donation to NDSC. They should be

able to trace that donation and perhaps they have more resources/funds to log on

and discover the profile and IP addresses of them. If I had access, I could find

out who exactly they are. Police reports should be filed. Give me a minute and I

can think of what the exact code is they broke....it may be different from state

to state, which makes me think of the FBI being involved. I know civilly it is

called defamation of character and I do know that they have stolen copyright

infringement with the NDSC logo. I think every one of them needs to be

prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law (jail time) and restiitution. I also

think they need to do community service (let the service they have to do match

the crime....like stand on street corners in their town holding a large sign

that says what they did.) Some extensive and lengthy volunteer work involving

the handicapped would be excellent.

This is what I e-mailed them:

It has come to my attention that some disreputable posters on your site have

infringed on the copyrights for the National Down Syndrome Congress. In the

process, many children's photos were mutilated and defamatory comments were

posted in place of the original comments that accompanied the posters. The NDSC

is investigating and intends to prosecute those responsible for creating these

alternate posters.

As a mother of a child in these posters and a campaign contributor, I will also

join NDSC in prosecuting this website and it's posters to the fullest extent of

the law, both criminally and civilly.

With strong suggestion, I urge you to immediately remove the posts that have

molested these children and also prevent these posters from further making

defamatory posts.

I agree...I think that we should let NDSC handle this, because the kind of people who post this stuff are NOT going to be swayed by us writing to them...they think that they are 'edgy' to do this kind of thing, and they get off on having people upset with them. My son said that he knows of that site, and the administrator of the site has a page dedicated to threatening letters that people have sent to them.

He said that emails threatening legal action,etc, from individuals do not work...the people on that forum think that those kinds of letters are  funny. (it is apparently a very famous site..my son said that he has seen comments about it on  other forums that he is on) he said that he has read that they DO sometimes take things down, but the only time that has happened has been when people ask in a nice way..threats just make them dig in their heels.

It was really hard scrolling through those 5 pages......my kids saw I was visibly in shock thats when Bobby man took over......

If you can, gather what you have and send it to NDSC. Do what you feel comfortable with.

I did not want to mention that this piece of crap made a donation. That is just so, so scary sick...I dont even have a word to describe how sick. As I said before, be careful folks.

This is beyond sick & very upsetting to me since I saw my son 's poster on page 4 I believe. I am not going to give them the satisfaction of an email. That's just a waste of my time. I hope the guilty party is prosecuted to the fullest extent. I hope I can go to sleep after seeing this.......just heartbreaking indeed.

My son just went to look at the site, and he said that right now, there are only about 165 responses..it isn't even on their first page anymore...this site sometimes has thousands of messages in a thread...his advice is to just let the NDSC take take of it, because if a lot of people start sending in angry letters, they WILL be posted, and it will spur them on, draw a TON more attention to the posters, which is the exact opposite of what we want. If you feel like you need to write, write a letter appealing to their better nature, and that *might* work.

I am as big an enemy of this kind of stuff as anyone, but sometimes, the best thing to do is to just ignore it..those people are bottom feeders, and they THRIVE on controversy..makes them feel powerful, and makes them even meaner.

I found the site by doing a search engine. In order to post or find out the profiles of these worthless jerks/criminals, you have to pay $9.95. However, I painfully went through all the posts to see if my son's poster was there and I discovered that the instigator actually made a donation to NDSC. They should be able to trace that donation and perhaps they have more resources/funds to log on and discover the profile and IP addresses of them. If I had access, I could find out who exactly they are. Police reports should be filed. Give me a minute and I can think of what the exact code is they broke....it may be different from state to state, which makes me think of the FBI being involved. I know civilly it is called defamation of character and I do know that they have stolen copyright infringement with the NDSC logo. I think every one of them needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law (jail time) and restiitution. I also think they need to

do community service (let the service they have to do match the crime....like stand on street corners in their town holding a large sign that says what they did.) Some extensive and lengthy volunteer work involving the handicapped would be excellent.

The reason I told NDSC about the fact that the instigator made a donation was so

that they could nab the IP address or identify the person who did it.

Why do people want to be mean and hurt other people? What kind of twisted

mentality does that?

The only way to make them pay is to personally sue them.

I agree. NDSC should be the ones to take care of this. Let the organization be the representative of all the people harmed.
