Guest guest
Well, my son was very aggressive this morning with me while I was getting him up for school, and I just needed to vent. He must have hit me 15-20 times this morning. He is 13 1/2 and is getting much stronger. He was doing so well for over two months; I haven't gotten any calls from school to pick him up in that time, so at least that is a plus. I have been in dialectical behavioral therapy (developed by Marsha Linehan) for a long while, and it has made more difference than anything else for me. They have been developing it for use with children with ptsd and developmental disorders, as well as borderline personality disorder. Recently, they did add an adolescent group at his counselor's office for that, and I'm wondering if it would help him. He is mildly mentally handicapped, though, and does not process things very easily, so I don't want to frustrate him. DBT is a slow process, but helpful for a lot of people. I used to be a very anxious, angry person (and I have Aspergers, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, some OCD issues, and ptsd), and it helped me learn to deal with most of my issues. Have any of you tried any of your kids in a DBT program, and did it help? Thanks in advance for any anticipated replies.
