Guest guest
One last issue I forgot to mention -- he got ringworm, a fungal infection on his ankles, though we know no one who has this. Not sure if it's related at all to what's going on with Valtrex and his immune system. -----Original Message-----From: mb12 valtrex [mailto:mb12 valtrex ] On Behalf Of frodaddiSent: Monday, July 09, 2007 1:18 PMTo: mb12 valtrex Subject: RASH help! Pictures in files -- all verified Valtrex related? Hi all. Our son, age 5, has been on Valtrex, 250mg 3x day for about 2 months. The first three weeks, we saw improvements without any illness -- greater calm and focus, greater affect and conversation skills. However, since that time, he's seemed to be getting worse -- I thought maybe it's yeast, though we are and have been on Diflucan. Results of a Comp. Stool Anaylysis are due later this week. He's had Excema for most of his life, and when we started Valtrex, he was having a flare up on his knees and some of his legs, which is still there, but not responding to excema treatment. It IS itching him, and some parts have scabbed over. But the last three days or so, the rash has been moving to other areas, now including his face! and arms. That part doesn't seem to hurt, but he looks ill, though he's not really symptomatic at all. We are GFCFSF, but not SCD, but he's not really had any infractions that I can point to to cause these rashes. In the files, Riley's Rash and Zoey's Rash pictures look most like my son's, but I couldn't find the direct mail of their parents to see if these were indeed Valtrex related and led to gains eventually. He's become very stimmy, perseverative, and emotional over the course of the last month, gradually moreso all the time. He's also tearing paper and chewing things constantly.I'm asking your advise to help me determine which parts of all this sound like Valtrex working -- the rashes and healing regressions we were to expect; is it common for them to come 2 mos after starting Valtrex? How long do they typcially last. And if any of this does NOT sound related to Valtrex, I'd like to identify those things so I can investigate and hopefully help my little guy feel better before school starts in a few weeks. If this is all Valtrex working, and will lead to gains, I can wait it out! Thanks so much for all your help.Best regards,Christi O.
Guest guest
Ringworm is every where. Even if your animals at home have been hair tested at the vet and are negative for it, even if no one you know has it, you or your child can get it. It could have been carried by a wild animal like a racoon, deer, rabbit or coyote (depending on where you live), the spore could have been on a blade of grass at the park or a spore could be on a mat that your child takes a nap on at school. Are you sure it is Ringworm though and not Nubular Excema? Even doctors tend to confuse the two because they look very similiar. Both are also treated w/ the same topical ointment. Ringworm takes 6 weeks to clear up on the Rx and Nubular Excema will be gone in a few days with the cream. I know when you are detoxing a child the last thing you want to do is put them on anything else but the name of the Rx cream for Ringworm is Lotrisone (Clotrimazole/Betamethasone Dipropionate). All through college I worked at a Vet and never got it even when I came in contact with animals who had it. We took our daughter fishing in the woods for the first time and she had it by the next day. & Christi O'Neal wrote: One last issue I forgot to mention -- he got ringworm, a fungal infection on his ankles, though we know no one who has this. Guest guest
I only say this because you are seeing gains, wait it out. The die off symptoms can last for anywhere from none at all to 2 months. The rash is most likely die off, especially since you say it's traveling around. You find these behaviors because, quite frankly, they don't feel good. Imagine how you feel and behave when you are sick and now imagine how a 5 year old would handle it. As adults, we can be whiny, moody, etc. but children have less sophisticated (not that whining is sophisticated! ) ways of handling illness. Once you get through the die off, he should feel better. You may want to consider some sort of pain reliever (natural or otherwise but I'd stay away from Tylenol). Excema is most likely food or allergies. Ringworm is *everywhere*. Don't worry about where it came from as you'll never know! This is the same answer I give whenever I someone says they don't understand where their children got a herpes virus - it's not contained to one situation. It's *everywhere*. Most people have immune systems that can handle it but our kids don't for whatever reason. Bacteria, viruses and fungus are all around us every day. Some do need special circumstances to exist or spread but for the most part, we come in contact with them everyday unless you live in a bubble. cheryl
Guest guest
I agree with cheryl wholeheartedly. My son is 20 and going through HBOT and anti-viral, antifungal, bacteria and parasite treatment. Stuff is coming out through his skin all over the place. Now this is a young man whose autistic features have been gone for years. He is social, articulate, intelligent-and very, very sick with Crohn's. The most dramatic gains we saw when he was younger were ALWAYS accompanied by die-off or evidence of viral/bacterial activation. The same is happening with the treatments this time. All I can tell you is support his body with nutrients, find ways to keep the ammonia and other toxins down and hang on tight:)Cheryl Lowrance wrote: I only say this because you are seeing gains, wait it out. Guest guest
RINGWORM is actually a YEAST and not a worm!!! So...you treat it like yeast!!! with anti fungals...the best for it would be topical cream...MB12 can cause the yeast to flair up because DETOX will lower immune system for a period of time till there is no more!!! VALTREX is an antiviral... will cause other symptoms like behaviors and other types of rashes!!! Love, Gabby. :0) 8:00? 8:25? 8:40? Find a flick in no time with theYahoo! Guest guest
Our son got a severe case of ringworm last school year. The prescription cream did not work at all diflucan worked a little bit. Finally he was put on a rather high dose of sporonox for 2 months and it got rid of it. The interesting thing about it is that after he was done with the sporonox, his ringworm came back within 2 weeks of being off of it. I think some of our kids immune systems just can't fight things normally. He is back on the sporonox, as he is doing valtrex right now, but I'll be nervous when he stops taking it again. Guest guest
Lamisil cream worked fabulously for my son when he had an outbreak of ringworm last year. Guest guest
I think this was already answered but I thought I would chime in just in case. In my experience ringworm is fungal. I am personally not a big fan of treating fugus soley topically considering most fungus is born in the gut. If my child has eczema (fungus under the skin in my experience and opinion) or ringworm I would treat him with oral and/ or IV antifungals. Oral usually does the trick. To answer the previous question, yes, we very often see fungal flares with Valtrex or OLE in our community of children with autism especially if an antifungal like Diflucan, Nizoral, Amphotericin B, Lamicil, or Sporanox are not onboard as well. - Stan One last issue I forgot to mention -- he got ringworm, a fungal infection on his ankles, though we know no one who has this.
