Guest guest
haha....poor thing...we had it here a few weeks ago. Danny got sick in the middle of the night ..started with vomiting, then diarrhea...or, as Danny puts it... " oh no, Mom...my bupp blew up! " KathyR We have been entertained with a stomach virus. ( oh so fun - not ) And of course would be fine one minute and sick the next. So we made it " healthy " to dance class, and while I was removing her snow suit she signed " poop " . And said " mommy need go poopy " . With that she threw up.. I got most of it contained in a nearby trashcan but we cleaned up our mess and fled home. She was in tears cause she was " yucky on hands " and would miss dance class. So we made a bed on the couch covered with towels and had our bucket handy.. etc.. and rode out the storm. Hit her hard, but she is better now. So the next day she sees her sister with the bucket ( cause now they all are getting it) and says.. " OH NO.. no more barf ! Sammy no more barf. " ROFLOL.. poor kid.. learned a new word. ------------------------------------ 1. Guest guest
it only lasted about 8 hrs..but he was pretty sick during that time. his dad and i got it a couple of days later, and it was a miserable time. I felt sorry for ME;-) can't imagine how the poor little kids handle feeling that lousy because they don't know that it will only last for a few hours..I at least had that comfort. yep sounds like the same thing here.. every hour we visited the bucked and changed the diaper.. gosh I hate the smell of desitin.. but it did the trick.. Guest guest
Hi I'm new to this group and I just want to say that I am learning a lot from you all. I live in Mishawaka, IN. Anyway my response to you is 'Oh my'. I had the same experiences this week. It started with my 15mo old Christian DS this past Monday. I was so worried because he is just so little and he sits up ok, but I was very worried about even letting him sleep on his side for fear that he would choke on his vomit. Bottom line he had it for one day and he was done with it. It was his first stomach flu experience. Needless to say I came down with it yesterday and now my 3 year old has it today and I'm still recovering. Not fun and I have six kiddos as well although two of them are out of the house. Now left with 4 under 7 and I turned 41 when I had my last one came. I can definitely empathsize with you . Guest guest
,I noticed below you mentioned about hands/feet turning blue. My 15m DS always has cold hands and feet and they are a bluish color at times. Of course with it being Winter and I am in Northern Indiana that doesn't help. Just curious if you've done anything about it or if there is anything one can do about it. All my doctor says is that he seems to have good blood flow because when she is examining him with his clothes off he has nice splotchy color in his skin. I feel like there should be more to that that I should be looking for. Any ideas?Sent on the Now Network™ from my Sprint® BlackBerryDate: Thu, 28 Jan 2010 22:09:45 -0600To: <DownSyndromeInfoExchange >Subject: Re: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Sammy's new experiance Yes hope everyone gets well soon. Guest guest
, Since she's gotten sick with pneumonia, and sinus infection, that is when the hands/feet started turning bluish. I've noticed in the past and never did anything about it, but this time it happened at school and it was much worse. Her para rushed her to the nurses office and hooked her up to oxygen machine to see what her level was. She was low. This happened every day maybe 4-5 times. I would just bundle her up and tell her to take deep breaths. When she's blue her levels at at 89-90 and doctor said it should be 94-95 for her. He was ready to admit her for low oxygen had hers not come back up to 94 by the time the appt was over. Not sure what else to tell you, but I'm waiting to see once she's better how often she turns blue. [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Sammy's new experianceWe have been entertained with a stomach virus. Guest guest
Thanks Jen. Your experience really helps. Well Christian is only 15ms now and he has not had any real big illnesses yet so I guess I'm pretty lucky. Also his pediatrician is a heart specialist so if there was something amiss with his heart than I'm sure she would have said something about his hands and feet color that might have related to his heart now pumping enough oxygen or something. Hope you find an answer for yourself soon. I'm sure it can be so tiring in the meantime. Take care. Guest guest
My Sam had no heart issues, but occasionally has this when she is SUPER cold. Like the time we took her sledding, she even turned blue around the mouth. She does have trouble with cold weather and maintaining proper body heat in winter. Even at age 4. I nagged my pedi to death about it and he said that all kids with DS have vascular insufficiency. I think it has to do with the muscle tone more so than the actual vascular system. Even if I over dress her she then gets sweaty.. So I try to keep her warm without over doing it. Its always a balance. HOWEVER, Jens daughters was accompanied with respiratory illness and is a different situation I think. .. I would bounce it off your doctor.. one you trust . And if there is no other health issues then I think he is just prone to being cold in the winter. Steph Shely wrote: > > > , > I noticed below you mentioned about hands/feet turning blue. Guest guest
Steph... I found it interesting that you mentioned low muscle tone. My daughter does have low muscle tone but however is not the one with DS. Maybe it is because of the muscle tone like you think! I will monitor her after she's better to see if she still turns blue. Guest guest
Well in her case its could be at least contributing. You said she had low oxygen levels.. so I think that might be the main cause. Jen Bolduc wrote: > Steph... > > I found it interesting that you mentioned low muscle tone. Guest guest
They told us the low muscle tone affects phoebe's circulation too. She always has this kind of mottled skin especially when she gets cold. The docs said the inside of the vessel walls have smooth muscle lining them and that muscle has low tone too, just on a very micro level. ~~~~~~ If we are to go forward, we must go back and rediscover those precious values - that all reality hinges on moral foundations and that all reality has spiritual control. ~~~~ Luther King, Jr. > Well in her case its could be at least contributing. Guest guest
That is probably the reason for Christians blue hands and feet. The low muscle tone I didn't think of that. It makes since.
