Guest guest
, You're a woman after my own heart, LOL! I barter my pet portraits or other art mostly. The kind of deals you're talking about are similar to some good deals I've had as well. Even new stuff I get as inexpensively as I can - Winter of 2010 I got an $80 coat at JC Pennys for $6 and some change because it had been reduced and then I also had a coupon for even more $$ off the reduced price. I buy all my art supplies at half price or greater and also occasionally find canvases at Goodwill. Love thrift shopping also! There is definitely the thrill of the (sales) hunt, that's for sure! Your washing machine adventure is what it's all about - buy low, sell high - sounds like Wall Street, LOL, except we're ethical and not overly greedy (oops, did I say that - my bad!!) In any case, the art of the deal is not to be underestimated! I admire resourceful women such as us, LOL! I recently traded a truckload of unused goodies (junk really) in exchange for a fellow to run electric up to my new cottage that I am building. He is a certified electrician, and we pulled the proper permits, and he was THRILLED to get a truckload of stuck for his wife to sell at the local flea market, I was thrilled to not have to pay for the work! I trade stuff all the time too, getting rid of things I no longer want in exchange for things I do need or want. I make several hundred dollars cash a week selling on craigslist and ebay-great way to support my gadget habit! You DO have to use caution and common sense, but there is a slight thrill to whole concept to. My mom laughs at me at the crazy exchanges, barters, and sales that I make. I recently bought a washing machine at an auction for 7 dollars-sold it the very next day on craigslist for 100 dollars, and had the buyer pick it up FROM the auction-I never even laid my hands on it, lol. I do stuff like that daily-good fun, good money! I have a plumber coming this week to put plumbing in my cottage, and in exchange he is getting a sleeper sofa and amoire that I no longer want...all I have to pay for is the materials! __
Guest guest
You were sure right Thea, as there are so many businesses who are very greedy now. Too many people who want something for nothing and too many businesses that want to gouge and give huge huge bonuses to the top dog or two and the hard working workers get no bonuses no matter what. How can a company like banks lose money and give the very people who were the reason huge bonuses and ask the government to bail them out (or give the bonuses after) and then have a huge spa conference as a big treat for them? There are a few honest companies but it is an overall greed that is a major problem now and lack of respect for the average person. Or that is my estimation. The problem is certainly not the small businesses struggling to get started.
