There is still no absolute consensus as the the cause of

lipoatrophy/lipodystrophy.  While D4T has been suspect for a while, I

don't think that you could argue that there was good evidence for D4T's

specific worries much before 2001.

Well, I'm basically on the same protocol I started in April of 1996:  Retonivir (later reducing it and adding Saquinivir), Zerit and Videx.  After the first two months my viral load went from 220,000 to undetectible and has remained so every since.  My T-cells at the beginning were 60 and climbed steadily to the 600 range, remained there for 5 years then two months ago jumped to 960.  (I first learned that I had HIV in January, 1987, but must have seroconverted before 1983.)

My poz friends here in Houston think I'm crazy to stay on Zerit ( & Videx) because I do have lipo, and facial wasting started about a year ago.  Quite frankly, I feel that if the meds are working, leave it be.  "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it".  And my doctor agrees.

Too many of my friends who have had this disease long term are now out of treatment options.  I don't want to be in that position until entirely necessary.

Any opinions?
