Guest guest
Don't be so sure about the Form of calcium having any effect on bone loss. I took Viactiv for my 1st year post-op. Then I switched to Calcium Citrate +D - both types at 1800 per day. Voile! My OB-GYN sends me for a bone scan, and I am diagnosed with osteoporosis. She wants to prescribe some fancy drug, but Dr K says to simply elevate my calcium intake by popping calcium throughout the day, with no maximum. (Dee also cautioned me that the OB-GYN's drug choice was in conflict with my post-op needs.) So I continue to dole out Calcium Citrate +D, AND I carry in my purse a snack-bag with a variety of Viactiv flavors, and try to pop 3 a day. At this point, due to the relatively short history of this surgery, nothing is yet Fact. Except - bad things happen if you don't take the recommended minimum dosages of your vitamins and calcium. Also, I note a big difference in what my PCP sees in my lab results versus what Dr K reads between the lines. " Who do you trust? " Not much question there! Bobbe - <128 pounds> from 268.5 at DS 3/12/03. Highest weight 285 in '98 <145> Don't postpone joy.

Can someone tell me what the best calcium to get is? > > Thanks > Kristy Dem words means war! lol You have done it, Kristy. I eat Kirkland (Costco) morning and night. In between I eat Viactives. I carry Citracal, but they literally choke me due to their size. Take home message: The BEST calcium for you is one you can afford and WILL take! lol The rest of the details are academic. Just make sure you do the test to see if it dissolves in warm water in less than thirty minutes. I have already done it with Costco calcium and Centrum vitamins. Marta who figures it is probably time to double check her pills' dissolving times.

That is why many of us do not tolerate extended release medications. Marta
Guest guest
Hi Kristy! That's going to get you lots of discussion but I use Viactiv chews. For me, it's because I can remember to take them. I always forgot to take pills. Dr. K told me the best calcium to take is the kind I will remember to take so there you go! lol! Hugs! Guest guest
What is the best calcium supplement to get for a 5 yr. old approx. 44 lb. child. I am currently giving my daughter Kirkman's chewable calcium, however I'm not sure if it is the right calcium or the best to give her. She is dx. with PDD-NOS and takes quite a few other DAN reccommended supplements. He has yet to put her on a calcium supplement, so I chose the Kirkman's but would like an opinions on other calcium sources. Thank You Karmen

Guest guest
We use Dr Yaskos calcium with magnesium, vit D and vit K. She believes the kids need the other ingredients to absorb the calcium. Our calcium levels were always low even with supplementing. Since we use Yasko's mixture our levels are now very good. www.holisticheal.com --- kcboone wrote: > What is the best calcium supplement to get for a 5 > yr. old approx. 44 lb. child.
