Guest guest
I agree. So often our opinion of a " valuable life " is skewed by our own abilities and our perception of their value. I have met, worked with and enjoyed the company of so many people who have disabilities. The majority are happy with their lives and bring joy to those around them. I think God sends people with special needs to help us see the world the way He wants us to see it. ~ On Fri, Jan 29, 2010 at 3:54 AM, Jannette Janson de de la Lastra wrote: When my son was born a geneticists with a lot of experience with Down Syndrome told me that 80% of natural miscariages were do to T21 and it was his personal belief that the babies that were not naturally aborted were ment to be born. Guest guest
yes.. or right after a miscarriage.. even with out the D & C. I was told to wait 6 weeks with my first.. When I had my second baby we followed the recommendations of the Couple to Couple league and their doctors. We waited till the bleeding stopped ( it was a very early loss) and 14 days later I ovulated.. and we had a awesome little nearly nine pounder 9 months later. Guest guest
Yes indeed it seems like yesterday when he was born. He is mentally on a preschool level I'm guessing. ... he doesn't take any supplements other than Melatonin. The other medications he takes are for anxiety & behavior problems, thyroid issue, high triglycerides, prevention of bad side effects from the few psychotic drugs he takes, and for seizures..but he may be taken off of the seizure med soon. If you are curious to know the specific meds he takes currently, let me know. He just got 4 more teeth pulled this past Thursday..he had 5 pulled last January The dental surgeon says he will eventually lose the rest of his teeth..they are just falling apart. Other than the teeth probs, he is doing really good health-wise. He supposedly has a heart murmer but I don't believe his current dr. has heard it before--he has been living in a residential group home since October '08 & the manager does keep me updated on his checkup's and such. He loves his home and friends there (there are 4 other disabled adults living with him). My mom & I will be going to his birthday party on Thursday..we go visit him at least twice a month for at least 3 hours each time..take him to lunch and just hanging out w/us..we also call frequently and send him cards. I miss him SO very much but know he is being cared for in every way there and the staff just adore him! Take care, Subject: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Re: Old eggsTo: DownSyndromeInfoExchange Date: Saturday, January 30, 2010, 9:53 AM 25!! Wow!! Does it seem like just yesterday he was born? Guest guest
Well, as far as getting pregnant again right away, don't let them tell you your body needs to heal, that isn't true. I have had 5 miscarriages and your most fertile time is the next fertile cycle you have following your miscarriage. Although, you may miscarry again it is still your most fertile time. I did miscarry one time two in a row, but went on to have more children. Our daughter with ds is #4 of my 6 children. I had her when I was 34. Caroline I did get pg after a D & C and lost that baby too..Doctor said it was to early and after a D & C your body needs to heal..you should wait at least 3 months. [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Re: Old eggs You know...if you really want to get *pregnant*, the easiest time to do this is within a month after a D & C (assuming that those who miscarry also have a D & C afterwards). Everything is at optimal conditions for a pregancy ten. But then they may have told you to wait so your body could regain some strength. Guest guest
My sister that lives in a home had 4 teeth left so they admitted her to the hospital and removed them since she wasn't able to really use them to eat. She now gets all pureed food. I know growing up with her her teeth were never brushed as she had sensory problems. Without taking care of them they just got lots of decay and started to fall apart. Guest guest
A D & C is a surgical procedure and should not be taken lightly. After one you should not insert anything into the v area, be it to douche, use tampons,or have sexual intercourse. Its at your Dr's discretion as to whether or not u should resume to have sexual intercourse in hopes of conceiving. Although most menstrual cycles should resume anywhere from 2 to 6 wks.,it is still unknown when exact ovulation will return. Some women may bleed more than 2 wks. Risks and/or Complications associated with a D & C can be hemorrhaging, infection in the uterus or other pelvic organs, perforation or puncture to the uterus, laceration or weakening of the cervix, scarring of the uterus or cervix,and/or the procedure may need to be repeated. So please do take care of your body.Give it time to heal. D-dilation-is to open up the cervix C-curettage-is to remove the contents of the uterus by scrapping the uterine wall with a curette instrument or by a suction curettage (vaccuum aspirator) smom "Where there is passion and a fire burning in your heart, there is hope..." Guest guest
So sorry to hear that. Its so important that our children are taught early on to care for their teeth. Can u imagine the pain associated with decay? If they are unable to care for their teeth their care giver should be resonsible for this as well. smom "Where there is passion and a fire burning in your heart, there is hope..." Guest guest
Really enjoyed ur blog. I done pretty much the same with since he was about 3 yrs.old.Everything was labeled in our house. There are still some here and there. I even have GRACE written on a poster board (small one) above our table and he reads it. Same concept used in my bathroom and his about standing to pee, putting lid up,lid down, LOL!! (had to teach him that!!) wiping his behind WELL,washing his hands (make me some bubbles I use to tell him!) washing his face, brushing his teeth, tongue,(still working on flossing),using his own handtowels, bathtowels, combing his hair. All of that he has mastered. We are still having difficulty when it comes to shampooing his hair.Sometimes he will gladly put shampoo in his hands to wash his hair then somedays he won't.I laminated a pic of a boy shampooing his hair w/a happy face and another w/a sad face.Majority has ruled thus far using this. He attends school and is in 6th grade. His chores are gathering all the trash the eve before trash day and cleaning out the trashcan, drying it then bagging it. Reluctantly of course, but it gets done. NO matter how SLOW he choses to do it! Separating his clothing to get ready to wash and setting the dial. He will remove his clothes put them in the dryer and set it then resume to whatever he was doing before. He washes dishes twice a week and will sometimes opt for more.I do supervise him while in the kitchen washing. We all learn each day what will work and won't work. Its fun at times and brings tears to my eyes at other times especially when I see him 'just do things without being told' and all along telling everyone his mind does work!!! His speech may not be that intelligible,he may not have mastered subtraction, may or may not attend college,etc.. but common sense and playing pranks he does have!! Am grateful and thankful for . Guest guest
His teeth have always been fragile. He has seen a dentist regularly since he was 5 or so but it was always hard to brush his teeth completely, plus my family history of bad teeth doesn't help. And I found out recently that the Depakote he took for about 5 yrs. damages teeth!! I had no idea that was a side effect of it..no research i made said that. He doesn't take Depakote anymore but the damage is already done I am not sure how many teeth he has left but the dental surgeon said that the repairs he did make won't last and he will eventually have to get the rest pulled. I hate that this has happened and even 'tho he doesn't eat a lot of food with texture, I want him to keep the same cute smile he's always had. His favorite food is any kind of pasta esp. spaghetti n' meatballs I can't wait to celebrate his birthday on Thursday..my little man loves parties..haha..seeing him happy just makes my days so much brighter! . proud mom of 3 sons..
