You know .. all these stats point to BIRTHS.

I wonder what the rate is per conception?? Older women are more likely

to refuse an abortion in a prenatal diagnosis. And based on age conceive

less often in general. While younger women have more "on demand

abortions" and most have no trouble conceiving . Wonder if those social

situations skew the data any? Wonder if the old and young egg theory is

just BOLOGNA and is just something that gets blamed on us " old women".

I was 34 when samantha was concived. I had a miscarriage at age 16 and

at age 28 and a 6 living children. Never had trouble conceiving at all.

I did blame my Thyroid for the miscarriages cause I have had a thyroid

disorder since age 6-7.

I dont have a link. It was something I read a long time ago and like I

said it was only a theory.

Sticky genes...interesting! you have a link on that? I would

like to read that. You know people with asthma have dehydrated cells.

MDS occurs differently than T21, though. I guess that is what the

research doctors are trying to figure out.

I did not know that about asthma and dehydrated cells! I had some problems with asthma late in my pregnancy with Tristan. The doctor told me I'd probably had it for years but just had never been diagnosed. He prescribed something and told me that unfortunately, it prolonged labor. However, Tristan was born two days before his due date. I was 31 when he was born and had two more typical children the next two years.

I think you misunderstood what I was musing about.  I was not saying

drinking, smoking or drugs caused it.  I was only speculating on a

theory about sticky genes I read a long time ago.

I guess my rambling was less than coherant.  I will just drop it though

cause it was only my brainstorming on a very non exact science that I

cannot even remember the details about.  I am sorry if anyone thought I

meant something different.  I do believe God has blessed me with my

daughter and however He decided to make that happen it all right with

me.

I had a brain tumor and was told I could no longer conceive, that it would be 1 in a million IF it were to happen... Well I did conceive and had a miscarriage. Same year I conceived again and was told it could not be possible!! Blood tests, urine tests all were positive.

Lo and behold my son was born!!

I've heard lots of theories....

What I hold to be true is that GOD chose me to be the mother of this precious child PERIOD.

When my son was born a geneticists with a lot of experience with Down Syndrome told me that 80% of natural miscariages were do to T21 and it was his personal belief that the babies that were not naturally aborted were ment to be born.

I think he is right and I think it happens just because we are humans and they are part of the human race.

What a beautiful thing to say. I miscarried a baby after and after only

a few days of grieving, I saw it as a blessing because it made me appreciate

, my last baby. There would never be another. I was just too old.

That is exactly what my OB doctor said when I lost everyone of my 4 babies. He was very good and sympatheic and even told me wait a few months and try again and we'd have a baby again. When we found out the results of my youngest having DS, he said that the results might not be correct as everyone is human and mistakes can be made while reading the results. While they were correct, it didn't matter to the doctor, or to my family. She's our little girl and was blessed with 2 daughters with special needs.

Never heard that one before, but had that been a good theory, all my kids would have autism. I'm still cold and everyone teases me about going through the change and that I'll be having hot flashes soon. My theory on that is....Yeah I might finally be "warm" for a change."

Oh, how cute!

I never felt guilty for *being too old* and I went on to have another baby at

43. (I want one more! I need the *right diet* for a girl...LOL)

I was just angry at the doctors for pointing out the traits that all of us had

as an inheritance factor and then adding traits that my son did not oresent

with. They violated our right to privacy by delving into our genes without my

consent (and against our consent). I was also very angry that they labeled him

(by their own words) *severely mentally retarded* and he has been nothing of the

sort.

I think this unfair labeling (and discrimination) is really unfair for the child

and the family.

I may be 44 going on 45, but I look and feel 29. :)

You know...if you really want to get *pregnant*, the easiest time to do this is

within a month after a D & C (assuming that those who miscarry also have a D & C

afterwards). Everything is at optimal conditions for a pregancy ten. But then

they may have told you to wait so your body could regain some strength.

People who have Asthma (like me) are genetically predisposed to it. Your genes

are what they are. An environmental incident caused the gene to be expressed.

Yes, drinking sufficient amounts of purified water will help with

Asthma...hydration is a key factor in prevention and won't hurt after you begin

having issues either (can help).

Makes sense. Researchers are discovering that DS may be a *defense* mechanism

(per Dr. Roper) and I can tell you that your child will more than likely never

have a brain tumor (the DS saved him). :) Aren't you glad?

I did get pg after a D & C and lost that baby too..Doctor said it was to early and after a D & C your body needs to heal..you should wait at least 3 months.
