Melody, have you considered growing some miniature tomatoes along side your sprouts? I grow Micro Toms, which are about the size of peas, in my aerogarden, year round. They are sweet and delicious! Guest guest
Sounds exciting 'cept that now I did to read over past posts to see what is best to get! (I'm woefully behind on all posts - pathetic!). Let me know if you think the sale is worthy! Evidently I can at least sign up to get their emails so need to do that soon. Guest guest
Thea, I did look at the sale. All is at least 10% off. It didn't seem all that wonderful to me for what I was wanting, but if you're looking for an actual unit (Aerogarden), you might get a pretty good deal. I was more in the market for accessories, like sponge pods.  Peggy  It's really way too easy to get behind on the posts, isn't it? Yet some days I open the page many times a day only to find no new messages. Strange. Guest guest
Hi. Which Aerogarden would you buy to grow tomatoes? The Ladybug or would you get another aerogarden? Thanks much Melody > > > > EW, congrats on the wins! Melody, have you considered growing some miniature tomatoes along side your sprouts? Guest guest
I have many aerogardens, but I got all of them either free or very cheap by getting them from Craigslist or freecycle.org (post a " wanted " ad in either-you will be surprised at the responses) I personally don't use the pods and pre seeded kits that come with them...I make my own using coir and/or sanitized creamer or coffee " pod " containers that my brother saves for me-MUCH cheaper than buying the stuff that comes with the aerogarden, and much better growing medium, in my mind. You can also find good prices on the aerogardens on ebay. I have them all-several 3 pods, some 7 pods, some white, some black. My house looks like Fort Knox with them all lit up, lol. > > > > > > EW, congrats on the wins! Melody, have you considered growing some miniature tomatoes along side your sprouts? Guest guest
Thanks, Peggy. I'll think about it but in the meantime will also start perusing Craig's List, etc. to see if I can find one as well. Unless I desperately need something, 10% is typically not a great discount for me. Yes, it's quite easy to get behind when you're also working a full time job and have other things going on as well. I read what I can, when I can, but I'm still literally hundreds of sproutpeople post behind!! And I'm the sort of person who refuses to delete unless I've read them. Otherwise, I might miss something crucial, LOL!! Guest guest
Peggy: With the ladybug, how many tomato plants can it grow? And re: Stevia. When it's finished growing (how do you know when it's finished) and what exactly is the next step after it grow. I gather you dry it, and sprinkle it in a beverage? Or is there a different process to making Stevia? thanks, Melody
Guest guest
Lots of good info from you Peggy. Thanks. Oh, I just went into my backyard. My landlady's daughter was visiting and everytime she comes I go out with a ziplock bag of sprouts. I went into the backyard and she was all smiles and she says " What have you got this time (Last time it was Lentils and a separate bag of one of my salad mixes). This time I said 'It's a French Mix with watercress, dill, radish, and I added some broccoli too " She LOVES sprouts. She won't grow them but when she comes, I give her sprouts. lol Melody > > Oh Melody, you do ask the most probing questions! lol >  > The Ladybug has 3 pods and I guess you could grow a tomato plant in each one. Might get kind of crowded after awhile. You might want to do lettuce or herbs in one or two of them and tomato in the third. What kind of tomatoes are you planning to grow? Even cherry or grape tomatoes can grow pretty large and viney. Might need staking at some point. AG has accessories for this, too. Probably would need an extension for the light arm, too. Before you invest in an AG, consider all the extras you might need to grow what you want. Otherwise you could be disappointed. >  > I don't really know when the stevia is finished growing. I read that in the garden it grows into a bush. I have picked off leaves and muddled them in drinks or just chewed on them. They have a delightful light sweetness. You can dry the leaves and powder them to use as you would any powdered stevia. At the moment, I'm picking leaves as I want them, and the plant continues to grow. I've noticed, though, that the newer leaves (toward the bottom of the plant), are smaller and brown at the edges. Makes me think I should be harvesting more regularly. Perhaps the setup isn't enough to feed a larger plant? I really have no idea - this was an experiment and I'm as much in the dark about it as you are! Sorry I'm not more help. I'll keep you informed if I transplant it or figure out any other steps. >  > I found this website with a lot of information: http://www.stevia.net/growingstevia.htm They say that starting stevia from seed isn't the best way to do things...oh well... >  > Peggy >  >  > > > To: sproutpeople > Sent: Saturday, August 6, 2011 2:49 PM > Subject: Re: OT: Aerogarden sale > > >  > > Peggy: > > With the ladybug, how many tomato plants can it grow? Guest guest
Hi there. Just harvested a new batch of my French Mix (to which I added some other seeds). My, they are quite nice. Gave some to my landlord's daughter and she LOVES my sprouts. She looked at me and said " you should go on television " . I laughed my head off. I'm taking care of my hubby so he's alive and well. Just made him a nice drink of the True Lemon Raspberry Lemonade to which I add a splash of pineapple juice. Since I got him off ALL soda products and all splenda, well his body is adjusting. That man used to use Splenda like it was going out of business. Thank god for Stevia, that's all I can say. Someday I shall get myself an aerogarden (but not before I get myself a vitamix). First things first. I'll get there. lol Hope you are well Mel

Guest guest
Aren't the True Products wonderful? I've written to them imploring them to make a True Pineapple (My husband would go nuts an I wouldn't have to get Pineapple Juice anymore). They said they are planning to make this I cannot wait!! lol, Melody > > > Hi there. > > Just harvested a new batch of my French Mix (to which I added some other seeds). Guest guest
.. I've noticed, though, that the newer leaves (toward the bottom of the plant), are smaller and brown at the edges. I really have no idea - this was an experiment and I'm as much in the dark about it as you are! Peggy, looks like your water might again be the culprit with why your leaves are turning brown on the bottom of your stevia plant. Notice the white powdery looking line in the hinge of the opening on your AG? That is mineral deposits from your water (tap water?) Remember, plants take up whatever is in the water and use them for nutrients...sadly, most tap water is LOADED with toxic stuff! If you buy a goldfish at a pet store, they will give you instructions to NEVER use tap water-it will kill your lil fishy! Same goes for plants...they can't tolerate a lot of the harsh chemicals in it. Your stevia looks great at the top, and should be very full and lush-perhaps try adding some spring water to see if that helps?
Guest guest
HI. I have a water question. When I give my sprouts a DRINK two times a day, can I use the liquid whey that I have leftover from when I make greek yogurt? I am now putting this liquid in my basil plants. But I was wondering if it would have any beneficial properties to either the soak water, or when I rinse and drain my sprouts.???? Thanks much to anyone who knows. Melody > > . Guest guest
Peggy, I have several glass juice pitchers that I put my spring water in. I found them at Ross, maybe TjMaxx for just a couple of bucks. I have to fill my large plastic water jug at the spring, or I get my ex hubby to haul me over jugs of it (good to be pals with the ex, lol) but I then transfer it into the glass. It is a bit of a pain, but WAY better than using tap water-worth the effort.
