Guest guest
Dana, My experiences with Singular are similar to yours except in the reverse. I was finally diagnosed with asthma after going to the doctor constantly complaining of " chest hurts; can't breathe " over a whole winter. When he finally put me on Singular within about two days my chest pressure completely went away. Now anytime I miss more than a couple the same thing happens. I don't think the lack of Singular causes your chest pressure as a side effect, it's that you were feeling your Asthma symptoms come back. At least that's how it is with me. Chest pressure and feeling like I'm having a heart attack is my biggest symptom when I'm out of pocket but I've had several heart tests including an echocardiogram and my heart is fine. Glad you're feeling better! And by the way, I've had the same problem with insurance. Weird, they didn't question the more expensive Advair but insisted on paperwork from my doctor for the Singular. Go figure. I'm new too. Guest guest
hi, well, all i found were people saying that they had an immediate bad reaction, things like asthma attacks, rashes, etc. my GP said side effects aren't common, and i might get a dry mouth or stomach ache, that's all. i haven't tried my tablets yet, having had a bad reaction once to an asthma drug, i'm waiting for my husband to get back home (he's away on business) before i try them. don't want to end up in hospital while looking after my son on my own, lol! these reactions seem to happen after the first tablet so your 5 year old will probably be okay. some stories also said they got water retention and put on weight, others said it cured their water retention and they lost weight, although i imagine that only happens for people who are big with water retention (like me, haha!). if it eliminates water retention then it's like taking a water tablet, you always seem to need the toilet, so if your little one has wet pants sometimes they may not be able to help it. shaz Re: Singulair > Dear Shaz, What bad things do you know? Guest guest
Sue, I took Singulair for just over a year, preceded that by taking Accolate. Both drugs worked well for me. However, I started having problems with chest pains and digestive disorders and went to the doctor. They couldn't find anything wrong until I had a CT scan and found that I had massive fluid accumulation around my heart and stomach. This put me in the hospital for 10 days. The cause was hypereosinophila. This is listed as a possible contraindication in the Singulair patient literature. They say that some times, but not always, the condition was related to a decrease or termination of oral or inhaled steroids that unmasked the existing condition, sometimes related to a condition known as Churg- Strauss Syndrome, which if left untreated, can be fatal. I wasn't taking a lot of steroids prior to taking Singulair, but the doctors are reluctant to assign the cause to Singulair. Since being treated (with prednisone) for my problem I have not gone back on Singulair. I still take prednisone after five years, although at low doses. I have not had a recurrence of my problem. Most doctors are not knowledgable about Churg-Strauss or hypereosinophila. Part of the reason I was hospitalized for so long was that they were trying to determine the cause of the problem, not just assign a treatment. My actual diagnosis was Idiopathic Hypereosinophila, which in layman's terms, means 'you have hypereosinophila but we don't know why'. I am not telling you this to scare you. My mother, sister and her son all take Singulair with excellent results. However, I have found that when it comes to personal health issues, it pays to be informed. Best wishes and clear breathing. Guest guest
Hi Kim, I tried it for a couple of months. The side effects I experienced weren't worth it but I understand those effects are relatively rare. (extremely vivid nightmares, very painful swollen breasts) They went away as soon as the drug was out of my system so don't be afraid to try it. My asthma is mild-moderate persistent and I've been doing pretty well on just Advair (strength varies depending on how I'm doing), Allegra, Nasonex and Albuterol for rescue. Good luck K > Hi, > > Does anyone use Singulair? I am looking for feedback. My allergist just > recommended that I take it once a day. Guest guest
It should take a few days before it starts working. Make sure you keep taking it. It is a maintenance medicine and you can not use it on an as needed basis. Singulair is one of those meds that if nothing happens then it's working. Guest guest
Hi Wanda, I've been on and off singulair for about two years and for me I actually don't think it's working at all, as I don't notice a change in my sypmtoms weather or not i'm taking it, the only reason I am still taking it is due to the research that it might prevent nasal polyps from forming. There have been studies that show it doesn't help all asthmatics, but I would say to give it a little while longer. I hope you start to feel better. Guest guest
Bill and all: " I also notice intense dreams but I havent experienced mood swings as reported in some responses in this forum " In my experience with allergic reactions intense dreams and abrupt mood swings are signs of allergy to a medication. My whole immediate family (my mother, sister and me) are allergic to codiene. I end up with intense nightmares, abrupt mood swings, itching, intense irratiblity and a nasty temper when I had taken it, my mom's the same way save that she has an extra symptom from it, vomiting. I suggest those of you who are having symptoms like these with the Singulair (including your 2.5 yr old) talk to your doctor about more information on allergic reactions to Singulair. With Singulair intese shaking or uncontrollable shaking and disorientation is also a sign that too much has been taken along with normal medications. A girlfriend of mine who had severe asthma took too much once because she just couldn't breathe, I had to rush her to the hospital. While her boyfriend was waiting downstairs for the medics I was sitting with her and I swear she was almost dying because she kept calling to her dead grandmother and passing in and out of consciousness. I litterally had to slap her in the face to keep her awake and alive. Most scary thing that ever happened to me. Sheal
