Yikes! hi donna and everyone! well, chinook continues to surprise me.... he did fantastic at the dog park and seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself! i was so happy for him. he was not unsociable at all, not one little bit. all of the other dogs seemed to luv him and he really loved all of them! one in particular who waited patiently for him to come into the park was a blue eyed husky... once chinook got in there, he ran and ran with that dog, along with a young black lab who had the blackest, sleekest coat i have ever seen. many other mixed breed dogs as well, and i got to play fetch with the lab i really miss that since chinook, being the breed that he is, just prefers not to fetch a ball. there is also a wooded area and a small stream in the park and chinook enjoyed that very much as well. i will definitely take him back there, perhaps on a weekly basis. i also found it very relaxing because he could run all over the place and all i had to do was sit and watch and chat with the people....lol. yesterday, i took him out walking our usual route. a storm began to come in and when i saw the neighbour's cows get up and RUN to the barn, we started running too so that we could get home before it rained. it was kind of startling to see that herd of cattle running for shelter like that... i was expecting to get caught in some awful weather. my running went ok... not a real pretty sight since i havent ran or jogged for quite some time... but i did it and we made home just in time. i put this down as a 'walkrun' in my journal after that i did the stretch segment from cathe's STS series. this is just 15 mins of athletic stretching. sounds basic, but you would be surprised at the instructors who can mess up such an easy video. cathe's of course was done very well. allergies have been trying to keep me down but im living with them... i wanted to lay down on the couch so badly yesterday, but i kept on going and didnt lay down until 9pm, when i promptly fell asleep. woke up all stuffy in the head and chest again this morning, but the rainy weather has helped a bit and the allergic reactions are not as bad today... yay! took me a while yesterday to remember that i have a neti pot... duh! i finally used it and it worked great!!! cleared my nose and sinuses right out. however, my ears were still stuffed up all day long, which felt weird. is there some sort of home remedy for that? i put some drops of rubbing alcohol in them but that didnt seem to do anything and i submerged my ears in a warm bath, but that didnt seem to do anything either. ive heard that you can use a neti pot on your ears too, but i was too doubtful to try it. :*carolyn. Guest guest
I have been tempted to get a Neti Pot too as I get some terrible allergies in the summer and hate to take meds. I have always found that Hydrogen Peroxide works well in the ears. Kathy Re: dog park/walkrun/cathe stretch/allergies Donna M-P wrote:> Shenan is "rough around the edges" with other dogs, too. Guest guest
carolyn, i love hearing about your fun with chinook:) he is a special dog/friend. it is nice that he had the chance to meet some other dogs to play with. most people wouldn't pay attention to what a bunch of cows were doing...that made me smile. the neti pot is wonderful--i want one after the sinurinse bottle i have wears out (i don't rinse as much as i should). allergies!!! i woke up this morning with a throbbing head--the area right beside and above my nose. similisan allergy eye relief eye drops and hyland's allergy relief for kids (figured the highest dose would work for me since i'm under 130 pounds) have been part of my program. not sure what to do for your ears--maybe keep rinsing with the neti pot a couple of times a day and see if that helps. it is raining here, too. my plants need the water. stacey
Guest guest
Hi Carolyn!Sounds wonderful! I'm glad Chinook enjoyed himself so much. Shenan isn't a "fetcher" either - she likes to play "kill" (basically, we play fight). My Newfie liked to play "pull" - It is funny how they like to play what they are bred to do! (Newfies like to pull nets in and such, and I think, but Sara can correct me, that Shar Peis are somewhat protective which might be why Shenan, being part Shar Pei, likes to play "kill"!) Take care!Donna> Shenan is "rough around the edges" with other dogs, too. I'd hate to > think of what she would do in a dog park! Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, Sounds like you had a nice week of dog walks and Tae Bo and things - and how fun that your boys worked out with you! And great news about Chinook and the dog park!! Our two dogs are very dog park friendly. When we had Quincy, he was Mr. Social and went to all the dog events with us. He was fine in dog parks, but never had much interest in playing with other dogs, and would prefer a nice walk instead. So we didn't talk him to the parks (plus they are all pretty far away) very often. Keep up the good work! Sara > > Shenan is " rough around the edges " with other dogs, too. Guest guest
Hi Donna, Yep, shar pei tend to be very loyal to their families, and protective, too. But, they tend to be more about posturing and noises than action most times. And fetching isn't one of their normal activities, though there are always exceptions. With our two shar pei mixes - Baby loves to play ball, but it more of a keeper than a fetch and returner. Bear will fetch once or twice to annoy his sister and steal her toy, but then gets bored, lol. Sara > > Hi Carolyn! > > Sounds wonderful! I'm glad Chinook enjoyed himself so much.
