Guest guest
An action alert from Singleton, FEAT-Houston, Legislative Liaison Well, the House passed their reworked version of HB2, (the education equalized funding bill). The Senate has passed their version of HB2. The problem is that special education funding has been assigned FIXED DOLLAR amounts AGAIN. Now a conference has been established to reconcile the differences between the two bills. PLEASE CALL ALL THE HOUSE CONFERENCE COMMITTEE MEMBERS this week. Ask to speak to the educational aide. Tell the aide that as a parent of a child with a disability, you feel special education dollars need to be in WEIGHTED amounts NOT fixed amounts. Phone calls are much more effective than faxes or e-mails. It will take about 15 minutes to call the list below. Parent calls made a tremendous difference during the regular legislative session, but we have to go to bat again in the extra inning of this special session. Senate members haven't been posted yet, and I will send out that list as soon as it becomes available. House members of the conference committee have been appointed and they are: Rep. Kent Grusendorf, Committee House Chair, District 94 out of Arlington Rep. Dan Branch, District 108 out of Dallas Rep. Dianne Delisi, District 55 out of Temple Rep. Rob Eissler, District 15 out of the Woodlands (alright all you people in the Woodlands, this guy is YOUR representative. Remind him that he works for you. Let him know that you're watching and will remember how he votes on this.) (512)463-0797 Rep. Bill Keffer District 107 out of Dallas (512)463- 0244 Also please call Rep. Hochberg to thank him for all his work on behalf of children with special needs because he fought hard in the House to get the funding designated in weights rather than fixed amounts. Rep. Hochberg, District 137, out of Houston (512)463-0492 M.
