Some parents are satisfied if their child can say " I want some juice. " Other parents wish for their child not just to request juice, but to be able to explain the properties of juice and exactly why he/she wants juice instead of water. Many of the methods allow students to make basic requests, but very few cause students to use advanced reasoning for higher learning and open-ended communication.
