Guest guest
Joan, That is GREAT NEWS!!!! Your Olivia sounds like a remarkable girl!!! My Olivia will be 5 in November. I worry that she's not doing well. She acts like SUCH a baby. She has a few words, but she really just overall acts like she's 2 years old....and a YOUNG two. How was your daughter at her age? I just worry so much! Thank you for sharing... Carolyn "The real winners in life are the people who look at every situation with an expectation that they can make it work or make it better." ~ Barbara Pletcher -- [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] changing minds protocal I have hesitated to comment on what we are doing with our Olivia (13) but after what she did yesterday I thought it would be good to share. On April 1st we started Olivia on 10 mg Prozac and we were already doing the oils and Gingko, but not the other drug. We have noticed an increase in conversational ability (my husband says she talks so much more) and in her memory. She will make comments on movies or events from months ago that are relevant to a topic in our conversation. (we might be talking about a person or movie and she will add something she remembers about them or from the movie). But yesterday it really blew me away. She has been reading a small joke book and she noticed a joke that she had seen in a different book. So, she got the American Girl book and found the joke. She showed me that these jokes had the same punch line but were different jokes. She remembered reading that other joke weeks ago and how it had the same punch line. I found this so exciting. This is not something she would have done months ago.Her overall awareness has improved. At her doctor appointment this week as we waited for the doctor she actually did a pretty good imitation of how this doctor acts when she sees Olivia. (Olivia look at you!!!!!!!!! the doctor usually says with a huge smile and big eyes). I was amazed that she remembered because we have not seen this doctor for about 18 months! There is nothing else new other than the Prozac that we have added and we already did a bunch of stuff for years. BUT this is the most cognitive change we have seen in a long time. We are pretty sure there is Neurogenesis happening and her MD who is working with us is really amazed and impressed.Joan Elder

Guest guest
Deb, Are you giving her the liquid or pill form of prozac? I ask this because if it is the liquid (20 mL/5mg) then 2.5 mg of prozac would be just 1/8 tsp per day or 0.625 mL. If she is taking 2.5 mL of liquid prozac (20mL/5mg) then that is actually a 10 mg dose. Myson is 23 months old and weighs just under 30 lbs. He is taking 5 mg prozac per day (1/4 tsp of the 20 mL/5mg liquid) - and has been taking this doseage for over 10 months. BTW - We just had a re-evaulation by his speech therapist and he made 6 months progress in his expressive language in 6 months time elapsed! Christy > > I have on 2.5 mg of prozac,, she's 92 lbs. Guest guest
We have seen amazing progress with , too. she is on 2.5 liquid fluoxetine. when she doesnt take it, we can totally tell it. She is keeping conversations (1, 2 words), and her motor skills improved a lot after prozac. she is almost toilet trained. she will be 5 in octber. never before has she done such impressive progress before prozac. about the dosage, she is taking hals the recommended dosage for her weight (40 pounds). she was taking 5 but was too agitated..also she is showing musch more of her personality now. before she was too easygoing. now she knows what she wants and figures out how to get it.another thing that helped us a lot is the book play to talk, by james macdonald, the communication partners stratey. i never read anything so good about communication and getting people to communicate.Cheers,Pat--- Em sáb, 22/8/09, kayc0911 escreveu:De: kayc0911 Assunto: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Re: changing minds protocalPara: DownSyndromeInfoExchange Data: Sábado, 22 de Agosto de 2009, 23:04 Deb, Are you giving her the liquid or pill form of prozac?
