Guest guest
SNT does tend to cause hyperactivity in some kids. I recently heard this tended to be the kids who have difficulty with phenols but don't know alot about that. My son got more hyper on SNT and had more night wakenings when we tried it years ago. Every child is different but I can share what has helped my son with hyperactivity and sleeping -- extra calcium (he takes Vitaline Cal-Mag Aspartate); liquid magnesium (Allergy Research Group or Cardiovascular Research Group's magnesium chloride) and DMAE (Source Natural's brand). The DMAE is for focus and hyperactivity only. It is a fish-based precurser to acetylcholine which is defficient in some hyper kids. If you're defficient in this, you either get hyper or very lethargic. Some call DMAE the natural Ritalin because it does have a remarkable effect on some hyper kids without the side effects of Ritalin. Guest guest
Hi Is this echolalia pervasive (100% of the time) or can it be occasional? The reason i ask is because my son repeats me something chronic but in a silly voice and i thought he was just taking the mickey out of me!! He has even started repeating people from the telly so watching TV with him now proves very difficult. He always repeats in the silly voice though. Because Adam is so high funtioning it is hard to know what is AS and what is him being funny!! Thanks Luv Suexxx Re: supplements In a message dated 3/8/03 2:44:40 AM Central Standard Time, autism-aspergers writes: , echolalia is when the child repeats what he hears rather than answering the question, I believe. Guest guest
Yes, echolalia can be occasional. And if he's echoing in a sing song voice all the time, he's probably stimming with it. One of our two autistic sons is very high-functioning and it can be difficult determining what is playing and what is autism, but in the end, it doesn’t usually matter. As long as your son is not using echolalia in place of real communication. Guest guest
Oh…by the way, it can also be times of stress that stimulate his echolalia. Guest guest
I have used echolalia to reach the autistic children I work with. I find if I repeat what they are saying in the same sing song voice they tend to listen. I can then change what I say in the same sing song voice & they will tend to repeat it. I start real small. Mostly sounds and single sylable words. The 2 year old was basically nonverbal when I started working with him 6 months ago, now he has a 100+ word vocabulary. He is even talking in 3+ word sentences. With all the funding shortfalls since Bush became President, most ADAP programs can't even afford to cover HIV meds. Now that Bush and the Republicans have just won re-election, I'm not very confident that ADAP will even survive four more years.

Once you are absolutely certain that a supplement is well tolerated and that it does bring benefits, them move on towards the next one.natasa Dear ParentsIve started giving my son some supplements(B6,B12,vitamins,glutathione,5htp, probiotics, cod livel oil and a natural chelator)and ive noticed some regression on my child, less eyes contact(keeps on looking at the seiling)lots of spinning and less interaction. What could it be?Is it normal when you start taking supplements?Shall i stop?Hope to receive your reply and all wish you a merry xmas! Guest guest
I don't agree that your post is ridiculous Barbara. Lots of people, even people who use DAN practitioners and with their guidance, make this mistake. And we all make mistakes, even if we're as careful as possible. Some few supps do work best if started together, but for the most part it is important to start only one supp at a time, at a very low dose, and then go from there. I'd recommend the 5htp at night, as it can help with sleep. Also, some supps tend to cause more kids problems then other supps. Glutathione is one of those. Lots of people choose to boost glutathione in other ways, in case glut turns out to be the problem. There was just an article about that in the TA newsletter. If you don't get the newsletter, the article will appear on the TA website in a couple weeks. There is a file in the files section about supps that might help guide you a bit.
